A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 217

After Krystal finished speaking, she glanced at Jeremy and continued, "You know me, I have no interest in playing the third wheel. Besides, if your girlfriend comes along, she can keep an eye on both of us. That way, we can all stay safe."

Melody bit her lip. She could immediately tell that Krystal was making a jab at her, clearly making a mockery of the incident outside the operating room last time.

"No need," Jeremy flatly replied. "She can get home on her own." Then, he looked at Melody and suggested, "You can call Ms. Thompson. They just left a moment ago. They can still come back and pick you up."

Melody froze. "What about you?"

Jeremy briefly checked his watch. "I still have time to go back to the hospital and check on the patient."

Without even a simple goodbye, he then walked away with Krystal.

From a distance, Melody heard Krystal ask, "Why bother explaining to her? It's not like she'd understand anyway."

After a short silence, Jeremy finally replied, "I'm just avoiding trouble."

Melody was sensitive and easily misunderstood things. She wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed either.

Jeremy had learned that if he explained clearly right from the start, he could avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble later on. He didn't want to waste more energy dealing with her mood swings, as it would only exhaust him further and force him to compromise his own boundaries.

Suddenly, Jeremy's eyes then darkened slightly at the thought of that little puppy named Echo.

...

Since it was getting late, Melody called Ophelia.

Ophelia didn't look pleased when she came back to pick Melody up. "Is he really that busy? It's not like he's the only doctor in the hospital. And Krystal waited at the airport until midnight for him? How shameless!"

Owen quickly reminded his wife, saying, "That's enough. Krystal's just doing her job."

Ophelia rolled her eyes.

Worried they might start arguing, Melody hurriedly said, "Ophelia, Owen, I'm so sorry for making you drive back here."

Ophelia reassuringly patted her shoulder. "Don't worry about it. We couldn't leave you here alone at night. It's not safe."

After returning home alone, Melody felt hungry and made herself some ravioli.

After finishing her meal however, she found that she couldn't fall asleep.

As she sat on her bed, she took out the teddy bear full of notes and carefully wrote down another slip.
