A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 57

It felt like even the wind had stopped blowing at that moment.

Melody's eyes widened for a second, but she quickly held back her reaction.

Jeremy lowered his gaze, watching her and waiting for an answer.

To be honest, his thoughts were a mess.

When he heard Laura and Ophelia talking about breaking off the engagement, he didn't feel relieved as if a problem had been solved. Instead, he felt even more irritated.

He couldn't understand where this feeling was coming from.

Melody suppressed the emotions churning inside her, trying to keep her expression neutral. She asked, "Do you want to?"

If he said yes…

Melody took a deep breath, her hands tightening by her sides.

A bitter taste spread across her lips.

If he wanted to break off the engagement, she would agree.

But after a brief silence, Jeremy simply said, "I'll respect your wishes."

Melody softly replied, "You should know by now that I don't have a say in this."

In truth, Melody was telling a lie.

She indeed had no control in most matters, but if she told Andrew now that she wanted to call off the engagement, he would agree without hesitation.

It had become an unsolvable problem.

Jeremy's expression remained unchanged.

He didn't press the question any further. Instead, he glanced at the beer Melody had brought and flatly said, "Why'd you bring this?"

A sense of relief washed over Melody when Jeremy changed the subject. She answered in a low voice, "Do you remember when we used to drink here? I kind of miss it."

Cheryl and Jeremy were both three years older than her.

That year, she was 14, and Cheryl was 17. Cheryl had liked a boy in the science track of her grade. After the college entrance exams, she confessed to him and got rejected.

Jeremy looked down at Melody with slightly furrowed brows. His eyes seemed to be able to draw her in.

His voice was emotionless as he said, "You have a night shift. You can't drink."

Melody blinked. "Oh."

The Wardolf residence was a bit far from where they were staying, so Jeremy drove Melody back.

When they reached the guesthouse, he suddenly said, "Go upstairs and get your things."

Melody had just reached for the car door handle when she paused. Then, she heard him say, "This place isn't suitable for living."

Melody had moved out of the hotel from before and found a new guesthouse.

It was still in the city center but tucked away in a small alley. It couldn't compare to a high-end hotel in terms of facilities, but it was cheap and practical, and only 30 dollars a night.

She explained, "It only looks bad on the outside, but the inside is clean."
