Melody was panicking on the inside as she tightly clutched the towel around herself.
Jeremy had always hated it when she touched his things.
She scrambled for the right words to explain herself but didn't notice that his gaze on her was no longer as cold as usual, and his breathing had deepened.
Jeremy had had the day off today, but Caleb suddenly called, saying there was a special case that needed his attention.
After wrapping things up at the hospital, he'd come home out of habit, intending to wash his hands. However, he hadn't expected to open the door and see that scene.
The faint sweetness of milk lingered at the tip of his nose as his Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily, and his fingers unconsciously curled.
His eyes drifted downward, landing on Melody's shivering shoulders and delicate collarbones.
The image from just moments ago flashed in his mind once more.
His memory was sharp, and he could recall every detail with precision.
He suddenly thought of the anatomical diagrams they had studied in textbooks.
But those were lifeless and dull.
Melody didn't hear anything from Jeremy and assumed he had to be furious. Hence, she grew even more nervous.
"I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to. You can have maintenance check it. My water heater isn't working. And then the power just went out too." Her rushed voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
Jeremy briefly closed his eyes before opening them again and gathering himself.
His voice, though, had lost its usual sharpness. "I got it."
He then turned to leave, but Melody followed right behind him, hurrying to get back to her room.
So, that milky scent trailed after him.
Jeremy had never thought that the walk from the bathroom to the living room was this long before this, but now, it felt endless.
He then stood right in front of her with his dark eyes locked onto hers, studying her as if he was analyzing something.
Her heart skipped a beat. "W-What is it?"
Jeremy's gaze lowered slightly, and before she could react, he leaned in…
He stopped at her shoulders.
The scent of milk grew stronger.
He asked, "Do you still remember what we learned about human anatomy and physiology?" His breath brushed against Melody's bare skin, sending a shiver through her.
She answered in a trembling voice, "I… I remember."
"Do you want to review it?"
Melody didn't understand what he meant, but at the next second, she felt his hand pause just below her neck.
