Jeremy asked, "What's this part?"
Melody felt the coolness of his fingertips, and her throat tightened. "Trapezius."
"Function?"
She struggled to speak. "It stabilizes... stabilizes the scapula, assists with shoulder and arm movement."
Jeremy applied a bit more pressure, and it made Melody all the more aware of his touch.
Her legs felt weak, but Jeremy still didn't stop.
His fingers moved to her neck instead. With his low and magnetic voice, he was inexplicably enticing. "How many sections make up the human spine?"
Melody wanted to back away from his touch, but her body felt like it had melted and was completely devoid of strength. The only thing keeping her mind clear was her ability to answer his questions.
"Five sections."
Jeremy's fingers slid lower and stopped right at the edge of her towel. "Be specific."
Melody's voice was close to breaking as she answered, "Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal."
"How many vertebrae in each section?"
She couldn't take it anymore, and her breathing turned erratic.
This was the closest she had ever been to Jeremy. To be this near to the person she had liked for so many years…
Melody reached out and tried to push him away as she said in a quivering voice, "I need to go back to my room."
The moment her soft palm touched his burning chest, Jeremy grabbed her wrist.
He looked down and stared straight at her.
Melody's heart pounded wildly, and panic filled her bright, clear eyes.
Jeremy said, "One last question."
"What's it?"
"Are you clean?"
It was impossible to say who lost control first.
Instantly, the chaotic memories from earlier rushed back.
Her heart raced, and her face grew hot.
The sound must have caught Jeremy's attention because the study door soon opened.
Jeremy stepped out in a cream-colored loungewear set and looked down at Melody with calm eyes. The marks on her neck were obvious.
Jeremy's Adam's apple bobbed slightly as he spoke in a steady voice, "If you feel unwell or develop a fever, let me know."
Melody's heart pounded even faster. She turned her gaze aside and softly answered, "I'm fine."
"I'll take responsibility," he added.
Melody stared at him, stunned.
Then, he spoke again in a tone devoid of emotion, "You're my fiancée. Since this happened, I won't break off the engagement with you.
"As for everything else…" he paused before continuing, "What do you want? Money?"
