A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 71

Melody pursed her lips and explained, "I'm just trying to help."

"This isn't the right way to help anyone." Jeremy looked at the door. "Where's the glucose packet?"

Then, a nurse came in with glucose packets and fed Krystal with them. Once Krystal's cheeks gradually regained their color, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Caleb said, "Dr. Finnigan, you almost gave us a heart attack. You passed out the moment you stepped out of the operating room. Luckily, Jeremy was quick enough to catch you before you fell and injured yourself."

Looking at Jeremy, Krystal mentioned, "I appreciate that."

He lowered his gaze, asking, "Did you skip lunch today?"

"It's worse than that. We've had many patients for the past few days, and Dr. Finnigan skipped breakfast sometimes for the sake of some patients. I'll wager that she's having low blood sugar." Another doctor chimed in.

Voices overlapped in lively chatter. All of them were relieved that Krystal bounced back to health.

Meanwhile, Melody stood in the corner wordlessly. For some reason, she couldn't bring herself to feel excited. In fact, she didn't even have it in her to fake a smile.

She glanced at Jeremy, noticing that Krystal was still clasping his hand. She knew that she should not be overthinking things but couldn't control her jealousy.

Melody lowered her gaze. She turned and avoided the crowd before she left the break room.

Harold was the first person to realize what was happening. He reached out, calling, "Ms. Wardolf?"

However, Melody didn't hear him, and she left swiftly.

Jeremy noticed someone moving out of the corner of his eyes. By the time he looked over, he found himself staring at her retreating figure. Be that as it may, he quickly turned his gaze away emotionlessly.

Tugging at his sleeves, Krystal commented, "Jeremy, I really appreciate you for what you did earlier, but can you do me another favor? Don't tell my family about this when we head home. They'll get worried."

He absentmindedly hummed in response.

After Melody came out of the break room, she went downstairs and wandered in the garden. Then, she took a seat under the gazebo and stared into space.

She kept telling herself that she shouldn't be this petty and narrow-minded. Medical personnel had the duty to prioritize the patient's interest before everything else.

At the next moment, a shadow loomed over Melody. It was Jeremy, towering over her and staring at her. He had already taken his lab coat off, which meant that he was now off-duty.

Melody sniffled and asked softly, "Are you done taking a rest?"

She wasn't crying. It was just that her throat didn't feel too good.

Jeremy was calm, his lowered gaze as still as a quiet lake. He replied by way of a question, "What's bothering you?"

Melody was stunned. "Nothing. I know that's how everyone is. It's tiring after surgery, and physical exhaustion is common. That's why we stocked various items that would help doctors replenish their energy.

"D-Dr. Lancaster also nearly passed out last time. You and Dr. Franklin were the ones who supported him and led him back."

Melody had no idea what she was talking about. It seemed like she was explaining the matter to Jeremy, but it also felt like she was doing it for herself. He didn't do anything wrong. In fact, his actions were on point.
