Melody had a long way to go before she could reach her target of 600,000 dollars. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't anxious. However, things were already better than they used to be.
She was just a nurse and didn't have any other skill set. The only way for her to save up was through this slow, painstaking way until she finally had the money required for the surgery.
A tall figure stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, making Melody wonder whether she should pretend she had not seen him.
However, Jeremy broke the silence, which was unlike him. "Melody."
She looked at him. He wore a shirt underneath the lab coat, and all the buttons were done securely. However, she knew that her bite marks were still left on his clavicle and shoulder.
Melody looked at him with glistening eyes. The moment Jeremy looked at her, there was a mix of emotions flickering across his face.
She had waited for him to speak up, but when he said nothing, she lowered her gaze.
"I'm heading back to the nurse's station if you have nothing else to say. I'm needed there."
It was obvious that Melody was avoiding Jeremy. The notion made him feel terrible deep in his heart. He lowered his eyebrows and stared at her intently. "Tessa's condition is critical."
With flickering eyelids, she commented, "I didn't make her apologize to me, so I don't think it'd affect her treatment in any way."
"That's not what I meant," he responded.
Melody's eyes sparkled as she asked, "What do you want to say then?"
There was a tension lingering between them, but it didn't stop her from treating him affectionately. It seemed like she was always patient whenever she was around him.
