Jenny’s comments seemed harmless, but her tone sounded off, as if she was hinting at something else. Rena’s eyes flickered. “I still don’t know what job Mimi is doing in Elgerson City. She must be doing something extraordinary, right? After all, ordinary people don’t just make millions.”

Miranda frowned, but Mindy gently squeezed her hand, signaling Miranda to leave it to her.

“Rena, Jenny, you two must be joking. Although Mimi didn’t continue with her master’s degree after graduating from college, she hasn’t been idle either. She worked a few jobs and managed to save up some money,”

Cynthia sneered, “It’s the best if she managed to save up the money herself. I’m just worried that she might stray off the right path and turn to unscrupulous means.”

Mindy maintained a calm expression and said, “Thanks for your concern, Cynthia. However, Miranda is grown up now and has her own plans. As parents and elders, we should just be supportive.”

Jenny raised an eyebrow. “Plans? From what you’re saying, does Mimi have something in mind? Is she going back to Elgerson City to find a job, or is she scouting for a new target? Will she be bringing home another few million next year?”

She dragged out the word “target” deliberately, making her insinuation clear,

Mindy’s expression darkened. As she was about to speak, Miranda’s phone rang.

“Mom, I need to take this call…”

“Alright, go ahead.” Mindy took a deep breath and held back her anger.

“Winter, what’s up? Is something the matter?”

Winter’s voice sounded urgent. “The results for the postgraduate admission exam are out! You should check your score and see if you passed.”

Miranda counted the days. It really was today! She had completely forgotten about it.

“Alright, I’ll check it now.” She hung up and quickly headed upstairs.

Back in her bedroom, Miranda opened her laptop and navigated to the results website. She entered her admission ticket number and password. Just as she was about to hit enter-

Suddenly, a voice came from the walk–in closet. “Miranda, are all these bags real?”

Miranda was startled to see Quincey walking out with a Channelle bag in her hand and a classic Louis Vuitton bag slung over her shoulder.
