Chapter 257 What Am I To You? 

“Don’t thank me yet,” Mary said. “If you make Rae–Rae sad or do anything to let her down, I will make you pay the price! That’s for sure.” 

Rachel, who was standing outside the door, felt a lump in her throat when she heard what Mary said to David. 

Mary’s every word accurately hit the softest spot of her heart. 

A sudden sourness filled her heart, causing her eyes to tear up uncontrollably. 

What followed was another wave of satisfaction. 

The misfortunes of her childhood made her think she was born unblessed. 

Therefore, she had to suffer cold treatment and humiliation. 

She was glad that Mary had appeared when she felt abandoned by the 

world. 

With such a friend who truly understood her in her life, it seemed that her life was not as bad as she had imagined. 

Rachel held the tears in her eyes and put on a smile. She pushed the door open and entered. “I’m back.” 

The lunchtime was longer than usual, but there was no flattery or formality. The harmonious atmosphere was more like a gathering with good friends. 

However, the banquet eventually ended. 

The three of them separated in the parking lot. After Rachel and David watched Mary leave, they turned around and got in the car. 

“Mary is careless about her speech. If she says something that offends you, don’t take it personally,” Rachel said. 

David tugged at his tie and glanced at her meaningfully. “Are you trying to be a peacemaker here?” 

Rachel laughed. “I’m just worried that you might feel offended and take revenge on her.” 

“Then, aren’t you worried about me?” David raised his eyebrows slightly. His smile looked somehow dangerous. 

“Do you have anything for me to worry about?” 

So far, Rachel knew little about David’s identity. However, her intuition told her that no matter what, this man would never be at a disadvantage. 

“You may laugh at this. Before I met Mary, I didn’t have a true friend whom I can share my confidence with. So I won’t let anyone bully her.” Rachel stared at David primly and said, “Not even you.” 

David’s eyes narrowed slightly. His well–defined fingers grabbed her chin. His fingertips gently rubbed the corner of her lips, pressing himself toward 

Rachel. 

The two of them faced each other. Their breaths intertwined as if they could 

kiss at any moment. 

“You’re heartless.” His sexy and low voice slowly rang in her ears. “You’re protecting others from me? Am I your boyfriend or your enemy?” 

No one dared to lecture him in public, let alone say “I will make you pay the price” to him. 

He felt that he had been polite enough to Mary. 

Rachel raised her chin slightly and gently pecked his lips. “I just want to show you what Mary means to me.” 

“What about me? What do I mean to you?” David’s black eyes stared at her without blinking. There was an unconcealable dominance in his eyes. 

Rachel’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. 

The man’s palm brushed past her cheek. His nimble fingers combed through her hair and grabbed the back of her head. Suddenly, he moved his face closer to hers. His low and sexy voice gently said, “Rae, what am I to you?”
