Her simple statement of “I’m pregnant” rendered Suzy completely speechless, her mind blank.
It took her a long moment to recover before she finally asked, "Repeat what you just said."
"Suzy, I know this might be hard for you to accept, but…" The woman’s voice cracked as she began to cry.
"This is a living, breathing life. Please, I’m begging you. Give it a chance."
If Suzy hadn’t already realized that this fake Charlotte was deceitful, she would truly be a fool.
She looked at the woman and said, "Let’s talk in private."
Before the woman could respond, Timothy immediately stepped in, shielding her protectively.
"If you have something to say, you can say it in front of me! And for the record, I want this child. It has nothing to do with her! She’s pregnant now, and I’m going to give her and the baby the respect and legitimacy they deserve."
Suzy laughed coldly. "So, what you’re saying is, you’re willing to abandon me but can’t abandon her and the child she’s carrying?"
"That’s right!" Timothy replied without hesitation.
Even though Suzy knew that Timothy’s obsession with Charlotte was due to the drugs he’d been manipulated into taking, hearing him declare his willingness to cast her aside so easily still stung.
The father she searched for over so many years now had room in his heart only for Charlotte. She had no place there.
Though she had known this painful truth for some time, it was still hard to accept.
It wasn’t as if Timothy didn’t know he had a daughter. He did. Yet, she was still treated as though she didn’t matter.
Before she could respond, the woman stepped out from behind Timothy, clasping her hands together as if pleading. "Suzy, I’m begging you, just let us be. We truly love each other."
"Let you be?" Suzy’s laugh was filled with mockery.
"Sure, go ahead and get married. But…"
Her eyes locked onto the woman, unyielding and sharp. "You can get married, but you can’t have this child."
