Suddenly a middle-aged man stands up. He's in a suit like most of the other "elders" and advisors. But above the sleek, black fabric, he has extremely curly, slicked back hair. He adjusts it and stands towards the front. "I understand your concerns, Alphas. It would've been a great loss to our society if the lives of either your imprint," he clearly refuses to call me luna, "or..." he looks Onai up and down. "One of our betas was lost. However, that doesn't change the most egregious risk that befell our great nation. If she had-"
At this point I'm just a passive passenger receiving a shit storm. I have no intention of stepping in either or standing up for myself because these people clearly can't be reasoned with. That's why I'm surprised when someone actually tries to shut this guy up for two seconds. I expect it to be Carson or Axel again, but instead it's Aiden.
He steps forward, still a good distance away from the man and the elders sitting before us, but somehow it almost feels like he's right in front of them. His presence dominates the room and everyone's getting that cold stare. "Thank you, Mr. Sanchez, for pointing that out. That's something I wanted to address actually."
He looks each person dead in the eyes, all seven elders and all ten advisors including Ms. Baines, Coach Kenet, and Mr. Olcan. "If Mia had managed to reveal our secret to her entire human family, it would've been one of the greatest catastrophes in history. In fact, she partially already did just that by revealing the secret to her brother."
Is... is he serious right now?
"We need not consider this issue in the past tense," Aiden scoffs. "It's still very much alive. At this very moment there's a risk that he could still tell every human he knows what he saw." He looks at Onai. "Exactly what he saw in addition to any false assumptions he may carry due to the lack of clarification his sister provided him. To my knowledge, she only informed him that werewolves exist." He shakes his head, disappointedly. "Ask yourselves this, if you were a human, would you celebrate that kind of discovery when a nearly incapacitated werewolf was bleeding to death at your doorstep?"
My mouth falls open. He's helping them gang up on me? And Onai? I can't believe my eyes. Or ears. Or even reality right now.
"Stop me if I'm wrong, Mia." He doesn't even look my way. "But I'm under the impression that if you were given enough time, or a strong enough reason, your entire family would know about us, thus potentially leading to the possible destruction of our nation or," he pauses, feeding the delusions of the crowd. "Dare I say, another species war. Isn't that right, Mia?"
The panel is full of people in various stages of shock. The old lady nods her head, near tears. Coach Kenet looks at Ms. Baines. Ms. Baines puts her hand up as if telling her to wait. All I can think is how much I hate Aiden right now.
