Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 106

"We don't know that yet," he cuts me off.

I talk over him, louder this time. "And even when all the evidence points to yes, you're still trying to defend her."

"I'm trying not to get an innocent person killed," he raises his voice. But then he lowers it, trying to move towards me again. "Please come here. I would never defend someone who I knew tried to hurt you."

"We'll see." I don't spare him another glance.

We wait in absolute silence for the guy to be retrieved. No one in the room dares to speak in the air of our argument. Eventually when Carson realizes I'm not going to budge from Axel's side, he moves back to the other side of Aiden towards the far right.

"You're not being entirely fair," I hear from behind me.

I turn around, and sure enough Brittany's made her way over here. Normally I'd be happy to have the girl at my side. But not right now. Not with what she's here to do. "He sent you over here, didn't he?" I ask astonished both at the thought of his pettiness and her willingness to follow through.

She shrugs. "Hey, it's part of the job description, but..."

I show her exactly what I think about that with my eyes.

She puts her hands up. "I know, I know, I'm playing devil's advocate right now, but please. Hear me out."

I don't say anything.

"They have a lot of history. We all do with her, right guys?" She looks between the brothers and Ethel-who she dragged along for moral support. Krys is currently torturing Onai.

Axel of course, is the first to nod. "She's a pack member. That's family to us."

I give him a warning look.

"But clearly," he covers up. "She'll be dealt with like a stranger if it turns out she's guilty."

Brittany nods. "That's one thing you can be sure of. If it is her, Carson'll kill her for making him second guess you."

"I am still in this room, you know," Suzie says.

I turn to her, about to tell her 'I'm aware.'

Aiden cuts in. "The point is," he says firmly, staring at me. "It would be like hearing that your brother tried to kill your little sister or something."
