The young advisor puts his hands up. "I'm just saying."

"Let's keep Carson," another person says. "Maybe we could actually get something done."

"Yeah, war," the old lady shakes her head, her ice blue eyes staring at the other woman in disgust. "You just want to see our people die in masses."

"Can't they all stay?" Mr. Sanchez asks. "Get one of the betas to help her home. It's not fair if any single one of you has control over this meeting."

The brothers look at each other again. Is this how the rest of our lives will be? Every move calculated? Every decision needing approval?

Brittany looks at the brothers' tense faces. She steps forward. "Krys and I could take her home. If you all have to stay."

Aiden looks at Carson. Maybe he's liking the idea. Carson reluctantly looks at Axel. Axel shakes his head slowly.

He smiles at Brittany gently. "Thank you, Brittany, but we need to be with our mate right now. At least one of us."

She nods. "I understand, given the circumstances."

Axel looks to his brothers. Carson's eyes turn to me. I look away.

Carson sighs. "You guys can go. I'll just stay and do this."

Axel raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure? I was going to offer."

Carson waves him off. "It's not like she wants me around right now anyway."

I roll my eyes. Way to make it all about himself.

Axel looks between the two of us and sighs. "It's a lot, so... I'll stay too. Aiden can take you, Mia."

Now it's my turn to look surprised. "What?"

Aiden gives me a look. "Is there a problem with that?"

I sigh, rubbing my forehead. "I didn't mean it like that. I was just asking."

Carson and him are driving me crazy.

"Alright, alright. Let's not do this right now." Axel pinches the bridge of his nose. I've never seen him do that before. The stress must be getting to him. "Are you okay with Aiden taking you alone, Mia?"

Now Aiden's glaring at him. "You don't need to ask her if she's okay with me."

Axel looks at him. "I'll ask my mate if she's okay, thank you. I don't need your permission."

"But apparently we need your permission to get to her," Aiden tries to keep his voice down, but it comes out forcefully.
