Axel looks into my eyes. He doesn't even fake a smile. "Fair?" His tone isn't harsh. It isn't soft. It isn't anything. He just says the word like it doesn't even mean anything. "Fair?"
I nod. "Yes. It's fair."
"But I thought you guys were fighting?" he asks.
I nod. "We were... we are, but there's no point in making new arguments."
He looks away. "Or maybe it's just you like fighting. Maybe you like guys who force themselves on you."
"Excuse me?" I ask. Who is this right now? Who is he right now? Surely not my Axel.
He hands Carson the crackers and shakes his head. "Nothing."
"No, you have something to say. Say it."
He looks me in the eyes. "Why am I the only one who has to ask? You just give him whatever he wants when he wants it."
I pause. "Are you talking about Carson... or Aiden?"
The room gets quiet, and I know the answer is both.
I sigh. "Alright. We need to talk."
The fact is, this can't go on any longer. We can't do this anymore. It's either all this stuff gets settled in this room, today, right now, or it's over because I can't deal with this grief anymore. We'll either all be together... or we won't.
I sit up as best as I can on the bed. I want this to be as professional as possible. This is serious, and I want them to know that. "Alright, let's get one thing straight. We're gonna settle this foolishness right here, right now, once and for all." I look at each one of the brothers around me in the nurse's office. They don't say anything, so I continue. "If you have something else important to do, or somewhere else to be, it's just gonna have to wait." Of course I'm talking to Aiden at the moment.
I risk a glance at him and then the other two. Still, they don't interrupt. It's sad that I'm just waiting for them to. I clear my throat. "Clearly feelings are getting hurt and everyone's got something to say, but we're gonna have to try to handle this diplomatically. Keep your emotions and comments to yourself if they're unproductive."
