Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 136

He smiles down at her, his beta, and claps his hand down on her shoulder. "Take it from here, Bri."

Her face falls. "What?"

"You've got this. Don't let me slow your roll. You were already explaining after all."

She doesn't look amused in the slightest. "If you don't handle your shit, Carson..."

"Well you were the one who was there when it happened, right?" He winks slowly, way too obviously.

She seems to catch on to whatever "logic" is flowing between them. "Oh. Exactly," she nods. "I was there. I saw it all." She turns to Michael whose patience is withering by the second, along with the rest of ours. "That's what I was trying to say before I was so rudely interrupted." She rolls out her shoulders.

Carson nods firmly. "Before she was interrupted. It was so rude."

They think they're geniuses. Michael blinks a few times. He looks at Aiden with a raised eyebrow. Aiden gives him a similar look back, but it's a lot more irritated towards the two before him.

"It was just a gym accident," Brittany continues, slapping Carson on the shoulder happily.

"A gym accident." Carson throws his hands up. "Now don't you feel silly for going crazy over a simple gym accident?"

Michael isn't buying this for a second. "What kind of gym accident was it, Mia?" he asks sarcastically.

I sit on the edge of the bed, startled that I'm being dragged into this crazy story. "It's... kind of embarrassing." I don't want to contradict anything they're saying, even if it doesn't make sense. It's not like I'm coming up with any bright ideas anyway. I'll just go down with the ship.

Carson nods. "And we felt so bad about what happened to her that we came here to make sure she was okay."

Michael's eyebrows fly into his hairline.

"Because she's our brother's girlfriend after all," Axel adds quickly. "And he was already here checking on her, so we came to see them both."

Carson cocks his head back. "Our brother's what-"

Axel cuts him off with a smile. "We were really just visiting Aiden. We just got here." He looks at Carson. "Right?"

Carson balls his hands into fists. He looks back at me, then at Michael. He looks at the ground and nods. Just barely. He can't even say the words.

Michael sees right through this. "If you were here for Aiden, then why was he the one leaving?"

All eyes turn to Aiden. Uh oh. That's a good point.

Aiden's doesn't say anything for awhile. I'm afraid of what he'll say. The cool, nonchalant expression never leaves his face. "I was just going to look for the nurse to see if Mia was ready to go."

I sigh relieved, but not too loudly so he doesn't hear me. This reminds me of the council meeting all over again. Aiden always has my back when it counts-at least most of the time.
