He stares at me for an extremely long time before shaking his head. "There's no way a basketball almost knocked you out."
"It did," I say.
"If it did, it's probably because there was something wrong with you already." He reaches to help me up. "Come on. Let's go already before we're too late."
I try to tell him that's wrong. I try to convince him that I'm okay, but he's not listening at all.
Then all of a sudden, Onai tries to help me out. "It was a werewolf that kicked it. That might explain the... extreme effects."
Michael stops trying to drag me towards the door long enough to look back at him. "How would you know? You were in class with me."
Onai gives him a flat look. "First, mindlink. Second, if someone threw it... it had to be a werewolf. You guys are the only humans around here."
Michael looks back at me and rubs his chin. "Hmm."
I try to look as unassuming as possible. "That does make sense."
Hums of agreement fill the room. Michael narrows his eyes at me, still dragging out the hm. He lifts some of my twists and starts poking the back of my head. "Your head does seem particularly large today."
"Stop it." I slap his hands away. "I said I'm fine."
Some people in the room try to stifle laughter.
My face burns. Why is he embarrassing me right now?
"Fine," he says finally, and like always the lie feels completely worth it with the look of relief in his eyes. "But we still need to tell Mom and Dad to take you to the doctor soon. Just in case."
I shrug. "Maybe. I don't think it's necessary though."
"It is," he says. "If not today, sometime this week."
I wave him off. "Okay whatever. You can go back to class now."
He double takes at me. "I can go what now?" He snatches my cheek up, pinching it.
I swat his hand away. "What are you doing?"
"You watch that tone of voice with me young lady." He uses his 'dad voice.' "Don't make me embarrass you in front of your friends."
Omg. More laughter fills the room. I stand up quickly, crossing my arms. I feel lightheaded, but I don't care right now. "Go. Now. Michael."
He gives me a flat look. "You really think I'm gonna leave you in this room with these crazy people?" He looks back at them like they're wild animals. He shakes his head. "I may buy the basketball excuse just barely, but that guy obviously likes you. And so does the other." He looks at Carson and Axel. "And the fact that your supposed boyfriend is still okay with them being so close to you, even if they are his brothers... That just seems a little sketchy to me."
"Well there's a simple explanation for that," I say hesitantly. The brothers look at me with questioning eyes. The betas look equally confused.
Michael nods. "I agree. They need to get out. Besides the nurse of course."
