Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 185

He's all but falling over the island. "Where did I go wrong?" He sobs into the open air.

This is ridiculous. I pat his back soothingly so he can pull himself together. There, there, Michael. There, there. "You didn't go wrong. I'm fine."

"Fine?" He chokes out. "You think you're fine?"

I nod. It's the truth.

He pulls away from my hand. "This kind of stuff sends out a message, Mia."

"Talking to my friends sends out a message?" I ask.

He waves my words away like they're carrying the plague or something. "Listen. I wish we lived in a perfect world where people could just do whatever they liked without getting bullied or stereotyped for it, but we don't." He looks into my eyes. "If going out and talking to guys at :whatever AM is your choice..." He takes a deep breath. "I'll stand by you and defend your reputation as an empowered Black woman who don't need no long term faithful shit, but... Are you sure you're not just being used?"

I take a deep breath and say very calmly. "I am not getting used, Michael, because we were literally just talking."

"..." He looks at me for a moment before turning towards the stairs. "I'm telling Mom and Dad everything."

My heart drops. "What?"

"Everything." He waves his hands wildly. "The brothers. The mistresses. The heart situation." It's like a light goes on in his head. He turns to me, pointing snidely. "Oh yeah, that."

"You promised you wouldn't," I say.

"That was until I realized why your heart was going crazy." He turns back towards the stairs.

"And what reason would that be?" I ask.

"All this 'extracurricular activity' you've been doing."

I jump onto his back.

It drags him backwards for a second, but he doesn't stop.

"No, Michael. Please, it's not like that." I can only imagine what would happen if he told our parents something this crazy.

He keeps walking.

"You can't tell," I whisper-scream.

"I will."

"You can't."

"Oh I most definitely can. So give me one good reason why I shouldn't." He ascends the stairs of doom and destruction.

"Because..."

He keeps climbing.

"Because," I say firmly.

"Because isn't a reason, Mia."

Because we're about to go to war," I blurt out.

"Are we gonna die? Why is this happening?" Michael paces his room, glaring at everything in his path. "What are we gonna do? Tell Mom and Dad we've gotta bounce? I'm supposed to graduate this year," he grumbles.
