Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 184

A million emotions flash across Ethel at once. "What?" he chokes out.

Onai doesn't seem shocked at all-which is kind of concerning. He's a little too calm about this for my taste. He looks at Ethel for a long time. Is he actually considering it? "It might work," he finally says. "But I'd have to hit him pretty hard... Maybe a few times."

That sounds barbaric.

Ethel, who minutes before didn't want me anywhere near him, holds onto my arm. "I won't say anything," he says.

"We already gave you that option. You ran." Onai motions for him to turn around, probably so he can get a good shot and not mess up his face.

Ethel gives an expression worse than Peeta at the 74th Hunger Games reaping. "I didn't know what was at stake." He shields his head. "I'll keep my mouth shut, okay? Just leave me alone, you filthy cheaters."

"You're really gonna do it?" I ask Onai.

He nods.

I give Ethel a sympathetic look. "Do it quick at least... Poor kid." I pat Ethel's shoulder before backing up.

Onai pulls his fist back. "Got it."

Ethel braces himself.

"So the brothers are your boyfriends, and these two are what, your quarreling mistresses?"

We all jump.

I snap my head in the direction of the voice and, sure enough, it's him. Michael stands in the middle of the backyard in his night robe. He looks like one of those corporate dad's going to get the mail in the morning. Only now it's the middle of the night, and instead of a cup of coffee he's holding a pepper spray.

My jaw drops. So do the betas.'

He rubs his eyes with his free hand, then looks back at us all with tired eyes. "For fuck's sake, can't a man get some sleep around here?" He stalks forward and glares at them. "So much for being the betas. Looks like y'all are trying to move up in the ranks tonight." He gives both guys a disgusted look.

"It's not like that," Ethel says quickly. "We were just-"

"We were just," Michael mocks with a shocked expression before glaring at Ethel. "Get the fuck away from my house and my sister." He lifts the pepper spray. "Time to meet your maker."

Ethel gives Michael a firm look. "Nice try, but werewolves are immune to pepper spray. You'll just have to-"

Onai shakes his head, signaling for Ethel to stop.

"What?" Ethel asks.

Onai grimaces. "He already knows."
