Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 230

I shrug. "Suzie wants to be added to the guard shift. I figured I'd ask you about it."

He doesn't say anything.

I keep talking. "She says it'll make her feel like you guys trust her again. What do you think about that?"

"Do you trust her?" he asks.

I shake my head.

"Then she won't be added to the guard shift. What's there to think about?" He looks towards the nightstand.

I keep my eyes on him. "I think she should be."

"Really?"

I nod, holding my pillow against my chest.

"Why?" he asks.

I try to be careful. I want the conversation feel believable. He said it himself. He doesn't trust me. I have to make sure I don't give him a reason to suspect this. "Because during the meeting we had with Coach Kenet, everyone said we needed her as the advisor. If her being on the guard shift will convince her to do that..." I shrug. "I guess I trust her like you trust me. Not in general, but with my life."

He looks into my eyes. "Okay."

"Okay?" I ask.

He nods. "She can be on the guard shift then."

That was too easy. I make sure not to smile. Am I smooth or what? I'm good at this.

Aiden's not done yet though. "She can start by watching you in teams with the betas."

"Teams?" I ask.

He nods. "With Krys and Brittany at first, then-"

"Wait, what?" I ask.

He stops talk. He stares at me, watching my reaction a little too intently. "Is that a problem, Mia?"

I shake my head quickly, trying to mask my disappointment. "No, that's fine. I was just confused."

"Okay then. Are you still confused?" He asks.

Silence.

It comes out before I can stop it. "You know what." I turn to him fully. "Actually that's not okay, because I need space."

He raises an eyebrow.
