Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 249

"And?" I hold my breath. "What did he do?"

Michael buries his face in his hands. "Nothing."

"Nothing?" I furrow my brow. "He didn't do anything?"

"Absolutely nothing." Michael pulls his hood over his face, shoving his head against the window. I haven't seen him do that since he was twelve, crushing on Anya Porter from across the street. He hasn't liked someone in a while, so forgive me if I'm getting upset. Do you honestly mean to tell me that Onai just left him standing there like a potato?

"So what did you do?" I ask.

Michael talks through the opening in his hood. "He just kept saying I wasn't his imprint. I told him that if he said it one more time, I'd really believe him. And he did." I can't see his face, but his shoulders slump further and further. He sighs forcefully. "So I told him fine. If that's how he wanted to be, he could just go away then."

I can't believe what I'm hearing. "So what happened next?"

"You were there," he tells me. "He left the second he got the chance."

My face falls. Did Onai really change his mind about how he felt? Is Michael really not his imprint?

KNOCK KNOCK

We both turn to the backseat. It's Krys, and she looks pissed off. Bri hesitantly follows her into the car.

"Can you drive, Michy?" Krys grumbles. "I can't stand being here a moment longer."

"Sure thing Krysy." He gives me a wary look.

Krys tries to click her seatbelt, but it's locked. It won't extend even a little bit. She shakes it, exasperatedly. "What's wrong with this thing?"

"I could-" Bri starts.

Krys glares daggers at her, yanking it free in one jerk. "I've got it. Thanks."

"I can see that." Bri puts her hands up in defense.

As Michael pulls out of the driveway, silence takes over the car. It follows us all the way to the school until I remember something important. Something that Mr. Reynolds said before.

He didn't want me or any one of the brothers having half-human kids because he said they wouldn't find their imprints, or something like that. Maybe it's the same principle with Onai. But I can't tell Michael that.

I don't know if he knows what Onai's mixed with, and I don't want to say anything about my theory until I'm 100% sure. So I just say, "Bye," when we make it in the school. "I'll see you at lunch, okay?"

"Okay." He walks away, but then he smirks. "Oh, and don't forget your objectives, Mia."
