Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 51

"Axel," I say as nicely as I possibly can. "You and your brothers, all three of you, are going to talk to me right now."

He opens his mouth.

"Right now, or I'm packing my bags and I'm leaving this godforsaken place. Do you understand?" I don't wait for an answer. I pivot on my heels and storm up the steps.

I don't give a damn. That's really all I can say on the matter. I don't plan to wait outside the gym doors. If I make it that far, I'll keep walking.

I make it that far, but I don't keep walking because the brothers catch up.

That's what I thought.

This is ridiculous. I can't believe I had to resort to such petty antics. I'm too grown for this. They're about to see a new side today.

"What could possibly be so important-" Aiden starts.

"I shouldn't have to threaten you for you to listen to me," I say. "You expected me to listen to you on Saturday at an inconvenient time. It's not too much to ask for you guys to extend the same courtesy now. Given the circumstances."

Aiden doesn't say anything to that.

I keep going. "I need answers not because I'm trying to waste your time, but because I'm concerned for the safety of myself and my family. I was attacked if any of you'd like to remember that."

"Nothing touched you," Aiden says. "I protected you if you'd like to remember that."

"Oh really?" I look at Carson.

Carson looks away. I know he didn't mean to, but he surely did knock me on my ass and scare the crap out of me.

"Besides him," Aiden clarifies. "But he had no intention of hurting you."

"Yeah, so you guys have told me. But that doesn't change the fact that there was the other wolf. Was it a part of your pack or-"

"Should she be saying all of this out loud?" Carson speaks for the first time all day.

Axel thinks for a moment and then shrugs. "Her brother isn't around so, I guess it's okay." He looks at Aiden.

Aiden doesn't protest either. Carson looks away.

If Michael's the only person that they're concerned about hearing this, then I suppose that means... "Are we the only humans around here?" I ask.

Axel looks at his brothers and then nods. "Occasionally some will travel through or stay for a few months, but at the moment, yes. You guys are the only ones."

"Are we in danger?" I ask.

"No-" Axel starts.

"Of co-" Aiden starts at the same time.

They look at each other. Carson says nothing.

I stare between the two that spoke. Those were completely different answers.

Let me make it more specific. "Will there be more wolves like that coming after me and my family?"
