Tobias’s chest tightened.
"Yeah," another nurse chimed in. "If Miss Selene hadn’t **used her connections, the girl wouldn’t have made it."
Tobias froze.
He turned sharply. "What did you just say?"
The nurses hesitated.
"A little girl—Rhea," one said cautiously. "She almost didn’t survive."
Something inside Tobias shattered.
Panic gripped him like a vice. His wolf growled restlessly, unsettled.
Rhea?
Tobias felt ice-cold dread creep down his spine.
He never even checked.
The blood drained from his face as the nurses continued chatting.
"Alpha Dean must not care about her much. He only moved the city’s medical resources for Sable…"
"Luna Sable is really so happy that Alpha Dean loves her so much! "
A deafening silence filled Tobias’s ears.
He turned abruptly and strode into Valeria’s hospital room.
Valeria bit her lip, then forced a laugh.
"Tobias, you know how the press is. They assumed—"
He slammed his fist into the wall beside her head.
Valeria flinched.
Tobias’s voice dropped to a deadly growl.
"I let you into my world out of obligation. But don’t ever assume I’m blind."
He stepped back.
And for the first time in years—his wolf felt empty.
