Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Joycelyn didn’t speak, her hands gripping the door handle as she pressed her whole body against the door from the inside. trying to block Ellison from entering.
Unfortunately, the door couldn’t be locked, and with the vast difference in strength between them. Ellison simply twisted the handle.
The door creaked open just a crack, and Ellison’s stern, intense gaze peered through the small opening.
Joycelyn lifted her eyes to meet his and asked, “What’s going on? If you need something, just text me.”
She was about to have a heart attack. With her mask on, only her terrified eyes were visible, full of resistance.
“Change your clothes and come back, Ellison’s voice was firm and unyielding, leaving no room for argument.
“Alright… I drove here. If you leave first, I’ll be right behind…” Joycelyn’s voice trembled, betraying her fear. Ellison didn’t let go, his tall frame almost level with the doorframe, radiating an aura of calm authority that made it impossible to look away.
His expression was emotionless, but his deep, cold eyes gave off an unmistakable pressure, as though an invisible force hovered over Joycelyn’s head.
“Il leave now,” she quickly corrected herself.
Outside, Haddy watched, confused, as Ellison stood silently outside the janitor’s closet door.
“What’s going on with Ellison? Did that hotel cleaner do something to upset him?” Haddy had never seen his friend like this and was about to step forward to intervene.
Leon immediately grabbed him, chewing his food, and in a half–laughing, half–serious tone wamed, “Please, don’t”
“Why?” Haddy looked at him with soft, questioning eyes.
“Don’t get involved,” Leon shook his head vigorously, signaling for him to stay back.
Haddy noticed something was off and frowned slightly. “Look at that figure, the cleaner must be the woman from the party earlier. She’s quite young, Ellison wouldn’t make things difficult for a staff member.”
Leon suddenly shot him a sly look.
Haddy’s eyebrows furrowed. “What do you mean? Could it be…?”
Leon nodded vigorously. “Exactly what you’re thinking,” he said, sneaking a mischievous grin.
“Wait, but isn’t Ellison already married?” Haddy asked, his voice turning uncertain.
“Could it be that’s his wife? Otherwise, why would he just stand there for so long?” Leon swallowed the fruit in his mouth and dropped a bombshell.
Haddy froze. He had been about to walk up, but now stopped in his tracks.
“Hey, are we cutting the cake? Where’s Ellison?” Cecilia’s voice broke through as she was sent by Ruby to check on the situation.

Chapter 53
The corridor was quiet, so Cecilia’s voice rang out clearly,
Joycelyn, hearing her voice, immediately slammed the door shut with all her strength.
Ellison stood silently, speechless.
Cecilia, hearing the noise, tilted her head curiously, trying to get a glimpse but only saw Ellison standing outside
Unfortunately, Haddy and Leon were both too tall to let her see anything else.
“He went to the bathroom. He’ll be back soon,” Haddy replied to Cecilia while turning around.
Cecilia, blushing at the sight of Haddy’s charming face, responded, “Oh, okay…”
Inside the janitor’s closet, Joycelyn kept blocking the door. When she saw the shadow under the door wasn’t leaving, she hurriedly urged, “Go, please go.”
She was shaken, sweating from the shock.
Ellison took a deep breath, then turned and walked toward the bathroom.
Once the shadow was gone, Joycelyn exhaled in relief and clutched her chest, nearly fainting from the fear.
Just as she thought the danger had passed, the door handle suddenly turned again. A strong force pushed against the door
from the outside.
“What now? I’ll be right back, just go ahead,” Joycelyn startled, instinctively blocking the door, her voice soft.
“What? It’s me, Joycelyn,” Selene’s voice came from outside.
Joycelyn stiffened, already feeling like she would be scared to death any moment
“Oh…” Her mind went into a whirl, and she quickly opened the door.
Selene stood there, confused, looking down the quiet hallway and asking, “Who were you talking to just now?”
In times of tension, people tend to act busy.
Joycetyn adjusted her mask and hair, trying to calm herself as she replied, “I was about to change, I thought someone was at the door.
Selene gave her a puzzled look before glancing at the empty corridor.
Joycelyn immediately switched the topic, “Didn’t you go to listen to some gossip? What’s the latest?”
“We’re cutting the cake now. Aurelia said we’ll hang out after she’s done. We should change our clothes too.”
“Mm.” Joycelyn nodded softly in agreement.
She turned her phone to silent, worried about Ellison calling her.
At this point, she didn’t dare return to the party, afraid of making a fool of herself in front of him.
As the birthday party neared its end, the guests were no longer in the relaxed mood they had when they arrived, and everyone was eager to leave.
