Joycelyn swore she didn’t have the habit of eavesdropping–she had only come to retrieve her phone. But now, an unexpected anxiety began to creep over her. 

She thought. What if that man in there tells Ruby about this? If Ruby finds out, that spoiled rich girl will definitely investigate. And if the truth comes to light, who knows what might happen to me? 

A nervous feeling bubbled up inside her, and just as she was about to leave, she heard Carmelo’s voice again. 

“Ellison, Ruby’s done so much for you. She cried for a long time when she got home yesterday and insisted that I explain everything to you. She loves you so much, that she mistook someone else for you.” 

At hearing this, Joycelyn froze, her steps faltering. She had planned to leave, but now she couldn’t help but listen closely. 

Ellison’s voice was cold, clearly frustrated as he responded, “Do you not understand what I’ve said, or have you not been listening at all?” 

His patience was clearly running thin, and Joycelyn could feel the sharpness of his words. 

He hated people bringing up the same old issues, especially Ruby. He hadn’t cared about her for a long time, and he couldn’t even remember what she looked like, despite her incessant attempts to get his attention. 

Carmelo, sensing the tension, quickly backed down, saying, “Sorry, I was too concerned.” 

“Take the watch and leave,” Ellison replied, his tone growing even colder. 

Carmelo, though visibly uncomfortable, complied, grabbing the Rolex watch and leaving without another word. 

The conversation inside ended too quickly, and Joycelyn didn’t even have time to leave. 

As she waited by the door, she was unexpectedly caught off guard by Carmelo coming out. 

Joycelyn felt relieved that when she had considered leaving earlier, she had only moved a few steps without drawing 

attention. 

As Carmelo passed by her, he casually glanced her way. 

Joycelyn noticed, and her eyes landed on the paper bag he was holding. Clearly, it had been returned exactly as it was. Ellison’s voice followed shortly after. “Forget your phone?” he asked, his tone low. 

Joycelyn quickly looked away, walked into the office, and said, “Mr. Grant, I’ll be going now. Call me if you need anything.” With that, she grabbed her phone and was about to leave without hesitation, aware that 

Ellison was still angry. She didn’t dare linger too long or try to console him. She wasn’t sure how to handle his temper. However, as she reached the door, she saw Carmelo getting into the elevator, and an uneasy thought crossed her mind. Turning back, she cautiously asked, “I overheard him earlier… What if Ruby finds out you’re married? What if she investigates?” 

Her voice was a mix of unease and nervousness. 

She was really afraid of their secret getting out. She had no power, no influence, no background. Being targeted by a jealous,

Ellison’s expression shifted slightly, his brow furrowing as he replied, “What are you worried about?” 

“I’m worried our relationship will be exposed, and then your admirers will focus on me. I’m scared.” Joycelyn voiced her 

concerns. 

Marrying Ellison had brought her happiness, but it also came with an equal amount of fear. 

She was just an ordinary woman, and that impulsive decision to get married in a drunken haze had left her on edge every day since. 

Even though they were legally married, she still felt like she was living with a secret weight on her heart. 

“Don’t worry. To hurt you, they’d have to deal with me first. Who would dare touch you? Do you think I’m just a decoration here?” Ellison said. 

Ellison’s narrow eyes narrowed even further, the light from the morning sun streaming through the windows casting a sharp contrast on his chiseled features. Even in the midst of his words, there was an undeniable chill to his presence, an unapproachable aura that made her feel small. 

Joycelyn took a deep breath and continued, “But… I’d rather no one know, if possible. Is that okay?” 

Ellison’s eyes hardened as he looked at her. He didn’t speak right away, but his silence told her everything she needed to know. The slight frown between his brows revealed that he was irritated. 

“Fine. You can go,” he said, his voice tinged with annoyance. His mood had clearly shifted from the calm composure he normally maintained. 

Joycelyn looked obedient, but in her calm eyes, there was a clear desire for divorce, as if she couldn’t wait for tomorrow to come so she could make room for another woman. 

It felt as though being known as Ellison’s wife might just cost her her life. 

“Then I’ll be leaving,” Joycelyn said, hearing his response, a sigh of relief escaping her. 

Yesterday, she had worn a mask, so his good friend probably hadn’t recognized her. 

As for the wedding they had discussed earlier, after thinking about it, Joycelyn decided it was probably better not to have 

one. 

After leaving the president’s office, Joycelyn was just about to step into the elevator when she saw Linda standing behind her assistant, Anna, looking as though she were “supervising” while actually waiting for her. 

“Joycelyn, what did Mr. Grant say?” Linda asked, her tone sharp. 

“Huh? Didn’t you just ask me to deliver something to him?” Joycelyn replied casually, a little too evasively. 

“You only delivered the sample? Didn’t Mr. Grant say anything else?” Linda’s frown deepened, clearly unsatisfied with her 

answer. 

“He’s very busy. He just asked me to drop it off, didn’t mention anything else. If you want to know more, why don’t you go ask him yourself?” Joycelyn shrugged and walked toward her desk, taking a sip from her water cup. 

Linda wasn’t pleased with this answer and raised her voice, “Then what took you so long?”

“I went to the restroom. No one was there, so I didn’t have to wait in line, Joycelyn answered with an innocent smile, clearly annoying Linda even more. 

Before Linda could respond, her phone rang, and she answered immediately. It was Ruby, and the conversation began with a sharp reprimand. 

“Ms. Wilson, I don’t know everything about Mr. Grant, you know,” Linda said, suddenly softening her tone, almost reverential as she spoke. 

Joycelyn raised an eyebrow but didn’t pay much attention. 

“Mr. Grant hasn’t had any rumors with women for years. I honestly don’t know who he’s interested in now,” Linda continue her voice filled with a mix of uncertainty and resignation.
