Joycelyn clenched her left hand tightly on her lap.

At that moment, she couldn’t help but feel some resentment toward Ellison. He had promised to keep things low–key, but there he was, openly wearing a matching couple’s wedding ring, which only put her in an awkward position. 

But after some thought, she realized Anna was the one stirring the pot, and logic told her not to let her frustration be directed at Ellison. 

“You’re the one trying to make a scene here. Are you aiming to embarrass me, Mr. Grant, or Ms. Wilson? Or maybe you just want to make yourself feel better?” Joycelyn responded with a question, her tone calm but pointed. 

Anna had been gloating, thinking she would get the upper hand. She had spent enough time with Linda to know Ruby couldn’t stand anyone overshadowing her. 

Anna thought that by putting Joycelyn in a difficult spot, Ruby would turn on her, but Joycelyn’s cool, collected reply caught her off guard. Anna’s smug expression faltered, and she seemed flustered. 

“I… I just want you to stay in your place and stop creating rumors that could damage Mr. Grant’s reputation,” Anna stammered, her eyes darting nervously at Ellison, whose cold gaze made her nervous.a looked at Ellison Grant, who had a cold expression. She was so frightened by his cold gaze that she stuttered. 

Joycelyn smiled faintly and then said, “How many people in this company are wearing the same wedding ring? Does that mean everyone’s Mr. Grant’s lover? Does that show any respect for him, or for the others around here?” 

Ellison put his fork down with a sharp clink, his icy gaze settling on Anna with an intensity that could freeze anyone in their tracks. 

“The company has a clear policy. Anyone spreading false rumors that damage the company’s image will be fired immediately,” Ellison stated, his voice low and threatening. 

Anna, her face going pale, jumped to her feet and bowed frantically. “Mr. Grant, I didn’t mean to offend you. It’s her.” She pointed at Joycelyn, her voice sharp with frustration. 

“It’s her! She’s been showing off that matching wedding ring, and at the annual meeting, some people even saw her sneaking into Mr. Grant’s room, but you weren’t there. She’s the one trying to seduce Mr. Grant, spreading these rumors!” 

In a panic, Anna tried to deflect the blame onto Joycelyn, hoping to escape the consequences of her actions. 

Joycelyn’s composed expression froze for a moment, but she quickly regained her calm. She pulled the corners of her lips up in a faint, sarcastic smile. 

The other employees in the cafeteria were watching, stunned, as Anna tried to drag Joycelyn down with her. 

If Joycelyn showed any hint of nervousness or embarrassment, it would only fuel the rumors. 

“So, who exactly saw this happen? Bring them forward to confront me,” Joycelyn said, her voice unwavering. 

She knew Anna had gotten this information from Linda. If Linda was dragged into it, she would surely back down. Joycelyn didn’t care if anyone doubted her, her eyes cold as she continued, “You’ve caused trouble and spread slander. If Mr. Grant doesn’t step in, tomorrow the whole company might be gossiping about me and him. What then?” 

Joycelyn sighed, her expression a mixture of helplessness and frustration as she glanced at Ellison.

“Apologize, pack up, and leave. Or, if you prefer, we can take legal action after a proper investigation Villivor’s reci through the tension. His cold, stern gaze made Anna flinch. 

The atmosphere grew heavy, the tension palpable. Anna, terrified by Ellison’s words, nearly choked on her own words, feeling as if the world was collapsing around her. She slumped into her seat, her shoulders shaking with Aw 

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry, Joycelyn! I’ll kneel, please, just ask Mr. Grant not to fire me. I was just being, fordish, I didn’t mean any harm. Please forgive me!” Anna pleaded, her voice desperate. 

Joycelyn wasn’t about to let herself be manipulated into feeling sorry for her. She wasn’t grong, to let Anna moralize and guilt–trip her. 

Joycelyn said, “If you truly understand you’ve wronged me and apologize sincerely, I’ll accept it. But if you’re only apologizing because Mr. Grant put pressure on you, then no. You’ve never respected me, 

She added, “Sometimes, one rumor can ruin someone’s life. I’m lucky that Mr. Grant stood up for me. You can’t escape the consequences of your own words.” 

After speaking, Joycelyn stood up, took her tray, and calmly walked to the recycling station. She left without looking back. Once Joycelyn was out of everyone’s sight, the tension that had been holding her body together evaporated. 

She felt utterly drained, as though all her energy had been sapped from her. Sweat dotted her forehead, and it was clear how anxious and terrified she had been earlier. 

She had been on edge, worried that one wrong word or glance could give others reason to doubt her. 

At least she had gotten through it, but she couldn’t help but realize just how much scrutiny and attention came with being in a high position, how many eyes were watching her every move. 

“Joycelyn, are you alright?” Aurelia quickly caught up with her, noticing she didn’t look well. 

“I’m fine,” Joycelyn said, shaking her head. 

“Don’t worry. Mr. Grant already told her to leave. He’s angry, didn’t even finish his meal,” Aurelia comforted, her voice soft as she tried to reassure Joycelyn. 

“I’m fine,” Joycelyn repeated, taking a deep breath to compose herself.
