Joycelyn moved quickly, her steps brisk as she entered the elevator. She adjusted her mark and tied her hair into a low ponytail.

Joycelyn called out to a woman, “Lucy” 

“Joycelyn… wow, you’re getting more beautiful by the day!” Lucy Barrett, a woman dressed in a professional outfit, greeted her. She radiated the typical aura of an urban white–collar worker. 

Today, Joycelyn wore a light, intellectual outfit- a silk blouse paired with an A–line skirt.

“You’re still the queen of our class, aren’t you? So beautiful! And with a ring on your finger are you married now?” Lucy exclaimed, eyes wide as she stared at the wedding ring on Joycelyn’s finger. 

“Oh my god, which man managed to win your heart? Didn’t he come with you?” Lucy, who worked in sales, was loud and enthusiastic, immediately glancing over Joycelyn’s shoulder as if looking for a companion. 

Joycelyn blushed at her teasing. 

“No, I came alone,” Joycelyn answered, not hiding the fact that she was married. 

Nearby, several classmates, hearing Lucy’s loud exclamation, had gathered by the door and were looking in. 

The guys‘ eyes lit up when they saw Joycelyn. 

The ladies, however, wore more complicated expressions. 

“Wow, our class beauty is here! She’s married but didn’t bring her husband… Looks like the guys in our class will be fighting for her attention today! Lucky them!” 

Joycelyn followed the voice and saw Caroline Lucas, the school’s notorious troublemaker, standing there. 

“She was the monitor. I heard she’s working for a big company now and earns a lot,” 

Though Joycelyn hadn’t been in touch with her high school classmates, she could still recognize some familiar traits behind their makeup. 

One of them was Tenley Reese, a member of the little troublemaker trio. 

The class reunions were a reflection of who people really were. Before Joycelyn even walked in, the “freaks” were already right there in front of her. 

“That group of ladies, one of them made her fortune selling products online, and the other, Tenley, got rich through a sugar daddy. They’ve really changed,” Lucy whispered to Joycelyn as they walked toward the private room.

Joycelyn wasn’t bothered by their mockery. 

“Has the teacher arrived yet? I brought a gift for him,” she said, wanting to focus on her gift for the teacher and enjoy her time with her friends, leaving as soon as possible.

“Oh, she’s not feeling well today, so he might be a little late or may not come at all. We’ll all give the gifts together later,” Lucy said, leading her into the room. 

As they got closer, Lucy couldn’t resist taking a jab. “Of course, us regular workers can’t compare to you. After all, you had the guts to mess around back in high school. We just couldn’t match up to that.” 

Lucy said this loud enough for Tenley and Caroline to hear. 

Hearing this, the two former troublemakers shot sharp glares at Lucy, then turned to size up Joycelyn, dressed simply but elegantly. 

“Well, she may have been the class beauty, but she didn’t manage to land a big boss to pay for her. Doesn’t seem like she’s doing so well after all,” Tenley sneered. 

Joycelyn looked at her calmly, a faint smile crossing her face. “Did your double eyelids get done with a cleaver? They’re so wide,” she said casually. 

If she weren’t so hungry, Joycelyn might have added, “Do you have some leftover food stuck in your teeth, too?” 

Lucy burst out laughing, mimicking the same tone as the two girls, “Seriously, it’s so obvious, isn’t it?” 

Both Tenley and Caroline’s faces twisted with fury. 

Despite not wearing makeup, Joycelyn’s natural beauty was enough to captivate everyone’s attention. 

As soon as they entered the private room, the men there began showing an unusually keen interest in her. “That woman really knows how to play the innocent act. I saw her sister at a rich kid’s birthday party; she married some poor insurance salesman. What’s the point of being beautiful if you’re still trashy?” Caroline hissed through gritted teeth. 

“Look at that face. I bet you’ve got some hyaluronic acid that’ll melt that face down. You should send one over and ruin her looks,” Tenley said, with an air of superiority. 

“Enough,” Caroline replied, immediately contacting an employee to send over a syringe. 

In the large private room, everyone’s attention seemed to be focused on Joycelyn. Even Liam, who had just entered, couldn’t help but be drawn to her. 

“Hey, our genius designer is here!” someone exclaimed. 

Joycelyn turned toward the voice and saw it was Liam. 

He was dressed in a plaid shirt, a far cry from the awkward nerdy appearance she’d seen backstage at the conference. Today, he looked much more energetic. 

It was hard to imagine that this was the same man Ruby had called her secret weapon. 

Joycelyn had her own reasons for coming today. She’d overheard Ruby mention at lunch that the Grant Group wanted to maintain its position at the top of the pyramid. Ruby’s chips and smart system could help make that happen. 

It sounded like a proposal for loyalty, but to Joycelyn, it was more of a way to keep Ellison in check.
