After all the banter and noise, dinner wrapped up around ten. Since everyone had things to do the next day—and they were all close friends–no one suggested heading to another venue. Asher left with Louis, and the others went their separate ways.

Once they were in the car, Asher leaned back in the rear seat and let out a long sigh. “You really planning to just keep going like this?

The street wasn’t busy. Neon signs lined both sides of the road, casting flickering light across Louis‘ face. The shifting glow gave him a rare, devil–maycare charm he didn’t usually have.

“For now, yeah,” Louis replied.

“So you’re not planning to divorce?”

“I asked her. She’s probably been soul–swapped–the original one’s gone. This one doesn’t have any issues. She’s not scheming or messy. No reason not to keep her around.”

“How generous of you. And you’re not planning to deal with Spencer anymore either?”

“The Graham family’s been in real estate for years. If someone can take over my grandfather’s work and do a good job, it’s better than letting some idiot ruin it. And Spencer’s character isn’t the worst–at least he’s not dirty.”

Louis‘ long, pale fingers gripped the steering wheel as he made a smooth turn, guiding the car steadily onto another road.

“But you’ve got a lot going on too. Don’t forget you’re still injured. And by the way, I heard that young lady from the Stone family might be coming back.”

Asher paused for a second, then let out a dry laugh. “Wow, you’ve gotten bolder already. What, laughing at me now? Save the jabs. When I want someone, they’re mine–sooner or later. I’d be more worried about you, to be honest. You’re the one who’s in for a storm.”

“What storm?”

If I’m not mistaken, aren’t you still being supported by that Ms. Stone? Tsk… A woman who isn’t swayed by power or money -now that’s something.”

At that, an image of Freya handing him money flashed across Louis‘ mind. He lowered his gaze slightly. “You’re reading too much into it. That’s not what’s going on between us.”

Asher glanced at the rearview mirror, taking in Louis‘ expression. He chuckled to himself with a quiet sigh. He said the exact same thing I once did. And we all know how that ended.

Chapter 109 1

When Louis got home, the clock was edging toward eleven. Just after he stepped inside and changed his shoes, Freya happened to emerge from her room after finishing an extra update. The two of them came face–to–face at the entrance.

Back already?” Freya greeted him casually. “Did you drink? Want some honey water?
