Louis was not the kind of man who spared women’s pride. He looked like a refined gentleman, but in the past, every woman who had tried to cozy up to him ended up getting snubbed by his cold attitude. Freya was the first woman he had ever allowed to walk into a banquet arm–in–arm with him.
These thoughts flashed through Cooper’s mind, and in less than a second, he had already decided how to treat Freya.
Just before stepping over, he had even leaned in to whisper a reminder to Mia–hence the warm welcome from earlier.
“Oh, not at all. I’m no good with words; I just ramble. I hope you both don’t mind,” Mr. Cooper said as he made a polite gesture. “Don’t just stand here; please, come inside!”
Mia didn’t forget to instruct the nearby staff either. “Hurry up, don’t just stand there. Escort Mr. Graham and Mrs. Graham inside, and make sure they’re well taken care of.”
Compared to the last time when someone had shown off and tried to assert superiority before she even stepped through the door, this reception was a complete change.
Freya had never felt the power of wealth this deeply before. Louis hadn’t even fully made his comeback yet, and people were already this enthusiastic. What would it be like once he did?
As soon as the two of them walked inside, they attracted a wave of attention. Fortunately, Freya had been interviewed in her past life and had seen her share of high society. She didn’t panic under the scrutiny.
Her grip on Louis‘ arm tightened slightly, but she quickly relaxed and followed him forward with a graceful smile on her face.
“Mr. Graham.” Someone was just about to approach Louis when a sudden voice called out, “Louis,” cutting them off.
“Louis, I knew you’d show up. Oh, and you brought Miss Shi too.” Baylon came running over, his face lit up with joy. Even when he looked at Freya, he didn’t have the usual disapproving air.
“Is your corporation not busy these days?” Louis sounded noticeably warmer than he did when speaking to strangers.
“Busy, of course it’s busy. I barely have time to breathe. I was playing chess with the old man

today–finally beat him for once. That’s the only reason he gave me a break and let me come here to liven things up. I figured things were going smoothly on your end, so you’d probably show up. Looks like I was right, huh?”
“Don’t just stand here. Let’s go over there.” Louis noticed Freya shifting her weight back and forth; he guessed she wasn’t used to wearing heels. He tilted his chin slightly, signaling Baylon to follow him toward a corner where there were couches, snacks, and drinks.
Baylon didn’t mind at all, though he did find it odd. Louis usually preferred to stand in quieter spots and chat. When had he started liking the couch area?
Once they reached the sofas, Freya immediately let go of Louis‘ arm and plopped down: Louis sat down beside her at a leisurely pace. Baylon looked at the two of them taking up the whole small couch and had no choice but to sit across from them.
“I gotta tell you, I just got my hands on something amazing a couple of days ago. It’ll be delivered soon, and I can’t wait to rub it in Kendrick’s face. These days, he’s stuck to Louis like glue–totally miserable. He can’t even play his favorite games anymore.” Baylon spoke with a grin that barely concealed his schadenfreude.
“Didn’t they say that about you back in the day?” Louis casually peeled a tangerine for Freya, then moved a glass of juice closer to her on the table.
Freya held the peeled fruit in her hand, completely baffled. Tangerines again? Why is he always giving me tangerines?
Baylon protested, “I was never as dramatic as him. I picked things up way faster too. The first time he had me do paperwork, I got it done in one day. And I never snuck off to fool around either. That guy’s worse than a girl, such a diva.”
“Hey, isn’t that Mr. Graham? Long time no see.” A man’s voice suddenly cut in.
