Freya wasn’t sure why, but whenever praise came from Waylon’s mouth, it always felt like he was being sarcastic. She shrugged casually, not taking it too seriously.
“Yeah, it sold, but it’s just a regular show. Who knows if it’ll even get on TV. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have let me be the supporting screenwriter.”
“Freya, you’re being way too modest. You sold your first novel; that’s something most people can only dream of. It just proves how talented you really are,” Waylon continued complimenting her.
Baylon glanced suspiciously at Waylon, then at Freya. “Since when did you and Ms. Stone get so close?”
Waylon gave him a slap on the back. “What do you mean Ms. Stone? That’s Freya.”
“Fine, then when did you and Freya get so close?” It wasn’t just Baylon who was puzzled; Kendrick looked equally confused. Even if Freya had sold the rights to her novel, that had nothing to do with Waylon. So why was he suddenly going all out with the compliments? It rubbed them the wrong way.
“I’m close with Louis, so naturally I need to show Freya some respect too. Right, Freya?” Waylon clearly had his own motives.
Freya shivered. Something about it felt off. She shook her head. “If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
“It’s nothing big. Jasmine’s birthday is next week, and I want to throw her a little celebration. But she’s not into it. You ladies talk easier with each other; how about you take her out that day? I’ll give her a surprise?”
Just as she thought–no one acts this nice without a reason. Sure enough, he was up to something. Freya turned him down without even thinking.
“She’s my friend. If I did that, it would betray our friendship. No way; absolutely not. If you want to invite her to something, come up with your own way. Don’t try shady tactics; it’ll only make her like you less.”
Waylon was a little anxious at how quickly she shot him down, but her last sentence actually gave him pause.
“Why would it make her like me less? I just want to surprise her.”

“Have you ever actually tried to pursue a girl properly before?” Freya suspected Waylon was just a total straight–shooter, no different from Louis.
“I’m always busy; when do I have time to chase girls? Jasmine is the first one I’ve ever actually liked.” Waylon emphasized the word “first“, he needed to make this clear, or Freya might go say something crazy to Jasmine, and then he’d be screwed.
“Well, well, Waylon actually has a crush on someone. Wait a minute–wasn’t that Jasmine girl the one your old man asked you to look after? Some family friend’s daughter or something?”
Baylon caught on to their exchange like he had discovered a new continent.
“I still remember how you complained about your dad setting you up on blind dates. Who was the one whining about how that girl would be nothing but trouble? And now here you are, falling for someone. Waylon, doesn’t it hurt to slap yourself in the face like that?”
Waylon ran a hand down his face. “Why don’t you fix those eyelids of yours before you talk again?”
“Haha, Baylon, I can’t believe you had the guts to mess with Waylon. Hahaha; that’s brutal,” Kendrick burst into laughter, nearly spilling the wine in his glass.
“What’re you laughing at? We get it, you’ve got nice teeth,” Baylon muttered, shooting Kendrick a glance from under his drooping eyelids. That scumbag; it wasn’t his fault he had natural monolids. Even with those, he was still the most devastatingly handsome man in the universe.
“Hmph. So you’ve got those big double eyelids, European–style. Big deal. Every cosmetic clinic can give you those now. Walk out the door and five out of ten people have the exact same ones. Don’t you think that’s just cringe? My monolids are what make me unique. Kid, you don’t know anything.”
