That made sense. Anyone would have a bit more patience if they had a beautiful wife willing to stick by them through thick and thin. Louis looked after Freya without disrupting his own rhythm or steps. It reminded him of when he first learned to dance, back when his mother was still around.
His grandfather had hired a professional instructor, but his mom had sent them away and brought his dad over to demonstrate instead.
His mom was already beautiful, and his dad was handsome too. The two of them danced to the music together on the open–air terrace of the old house. The sunlight had been just right that day, casting a soft glow over the pair as they danced–like something out of a fairytale.
That moment stayed with Louis for many years. He’d been young at the time, but he still remembered his mom’s playful grin after the demonstration.
“You have to dance this with someone you love to really feel the happiness. One day, you’ll find a girl you like and dance with her. When you do, tell her your mommy taught you this. Then one day, you’ll pass it on to your own little one.”
The sound of applause pulled Louis from his memories. When he looked down, he saw Freya completely relaxed, her face showing quiet relief. Louis couldn’t help but smile. She must’ve been nervous just now.
The second they stopped, Freya let go of Louis‘ hand. There was no way she was going in for another round. She hadn’t felt this tense in ages. And the feeling of being tossed around like someone else’s toy? Not fun at all–just awkward.
“I’ve never seen Mr. Graham dance before. Who would’ve thought he was so skilled? The steps weren’t what we usually see, but they were so much better. And Mrs. Graham matched perfectly. The two of you together left everyone in awe.”
Cooper hurried over to them the moment they stepped off the dance floor. The next song hadn’t started yet; the guests were still whispering among themselves, which only made his booming voice stand out more.
Freya’s face turned red. Perfect match?
She’d been flung around like a rag doll. The only comfort she had was that it at least proved she didn’t weigh much.
“I heard that back in the day, Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Cooper were legends on the dance floor-

champions even. Didn’t you two win some awards?” Waylon chimed in cheerfully, steering the conversation away.
After all, Louis had only stepped in for Freya. He didn’t want people reading too much into it. Still, the Cooper couple was decent enough people–just a little overly flattering—so Waylon held back from saying anything sharp.
“Oh, we don’t talk about the good old days. But yeah, I met my wife on the dance floor. Funny how fate works. I was obsessed with dancing at the time. She told me I was doing it all
wrong.
Of course I didn’t take it well, and the back–and–forth turned into something more.”
Once he got going about how he met Mrs. Cooper, Mr. Cooper couldn’t stop. The two of them still danced together from time to time at home, though they rarely did it in public
anymore.
“And then you jumped on the chance and brought home that gorgeous lady before anyone else could, right?” Baylon added with a grin. He’d done some business with Mr. Cooper recently and found him reliable, so he was willing to give him a little face.
“Let’s not talk about that. We’re getting old. Look at our kid—already grown. You young folks are the ones living exciting lives now. Back then, all we had was dancing.”
Cooper waved his hand sheepishly, clearly embarrassed.
Freya sat down and really wanted to rub her ankle. It felt cold and a little sore.
Louis noticed her fidgeting, glancing toward her feet every few seconds. “If you need to fix your makeup, the restroom’s over there.”
Cooper immediately perked up at the mention of the restroom and waved a waiter over. “You, you, you–come here. Take Mrs. Graham to the restroom.”
