Chapter 190 I Came for the Game
No matter how it was framed, the buzz in the livestream made the game’s popularity undeniable. With Kendrick’s star power adding extra momentum, Freya felt confident the VR MMO would attract a massive player base in the future.
During the rest of the stream, Freya stepped in a few more times to help Kendrick with the demo, and the results were great. By the time they wrapped up, the chat was flooded with people begging them not to end.
But Kendrick wasn’t the type to skip meals just to keep fans happy. After a few polite parting words, he turned off the camera and bounced over to Freya. “Freya, stop writing. Come on, let’s eat. I’m starving.”
Once out of the stream, Kendrick flipped right back into that wild, flashy, charming goofball mode. Sometimes, when Freya looked at him, she couldn’t help but wonder if the Kendrick she’d seen at that banquet had been a total illusion.
Back then, she never could have guessed that this guy–who always seemed so composed in public–was actually a cheerful weirdo among friends, prone to random bursts of silliness.
“That depends on whether there’s still food,” Freya said as she saved her file and shut down her computer.
“Louis won’t have time to deal with us. Let’s just hit the cafeteria,” Kendrick said, moving around like he owned the place, totally at ease. “Apparently, Louis hired a special chef just for this place. A five–star guy. I heard the pork is amazing.”
“Heard? Who told you that?”
“Who else but Waylon? He came by, snuck in a meal at the cafeteria, then came back raving about it. That guy’s got a picky palate. If he says it’s good, it must be legit.”
“Let’s go then. We’ve got to try it.” When it came to food, Freya had no pride. At first, she thought showing up at the cafeteria might be a little inappropriate, but with Kendrick tagging along, there was no reason to hold back.
They had just stepped out the door when Louis was already waiting outside. “Hungry?”
Kendrick dashed over in two steps. “Louis, Waylon said your cafeteria chef makes killer pork. Let’s go check it out?”
“What about you–what do you want to eat?” Louis ignored him and looked at Freya.

Freya pressed her lips together. “I want to try the pork too. She still hadn’t had any since arriving in this world.
“Alright then,” Louis said, leading them toward the cafeteria.
But instead of heading to the main floor, he took them to a private room on the second level. Kendrick raised an eyebrow.
“Louis, I remember you telling me once that no one was allowed special treatment in the cafeteria. You said upper management should cat the same food as regular employees to keep quality consistent. So why are we up here now? Doesn’t this break your own rules?”
“You can go downstairs if you want,” Louis said as he pulled out a chair for Freya and sat down beside her.
Kendrick immediately yanked out a chair and plopped down. “No way. What if you two sneak something delicious without me? You’re so good to Freya–you even slipped her juice this morning when I wasn’t looking.”
Louis shot him a glance, and Kendrick instantly zipped his lips and blinked innocently, signaling he’d stop talking.
“Besides pork, what else do you want to eat?” Louis asked.
Freya shrugged. “I’m not that hungry, and I don’t really know what you have here.”
“Freya, come on,” Kendrick chimed in. “Louis brought us up here, which means you can order whatever you want. If it can be made, he’ll have the kitchen whip it up for us. Just say the word.”
“I really don’t have anything in mind. You guys order whatever. I’m fine with anything.”
Kendrick turned to look at Louis, who was already fiddling with his phone. Whatever he did, it worked–soon someone arrived to pour tea and set the table. Not long after, a whole spread of dishes was brought in.
Kendrick looked at the food in disbelief. “Louis, don’t tell me you just asked them to bring out everything on the menu?”
Louis pointed at the plate of pork in the center. “There. The pork you wanted.”
Freya was equally surprised as she gazed at the dishes on the table. Honestly, if Kendrick hadn’t said something earlier, she never would’ve guessed this was cafeteria food. The
