Lewis did all that? Freya felt a little embarrassed. “I’m doing fine here. Everyone on set’s been nice–especially Mr. Zane and Mr. Daniel. They’ve both been great.”

Kendrick let out a dry chuckle. “Yeah? That’s because your husband had me call Mr. Zane before you even got here. You think they’re just randomly nice to everyone? Come on.” He rolled his eyes. “At least they had the sense to play it smart. Otherwise, I would’ve had to step in. No one’s been messing with you, right? None of the newbies giving you a hard time?”

Freya blinked. So… the reason everything had gone so smoothly here was because Louis had Kendrick talk to the director ahead of time?

It stirred something complicated in her chest. But she wasn’t ungrateful. She wasn’t the type to throw a fit just because someone helped her, only to turn around and say, “Why’d you get involved in my career?” She wasn’t into that kind of

drama.

Besides, for someone like Louis–raised in high–stakes circles and taught to use every advantage–it probably just felt like the usual way of doing things. He hadn’t meddled in her work directly. He’d simply done what he could behind the scenes to make sure she was okay. Even in the middle of his own packed schedule, he’d thought to give Kendrick a heads–up.

It was thoughtful–It meant something.

Once again, Freya found herself thinking, Louis really is a good guy. And again, it stung. A guy like that he wasn’t meant for her. She didn’t measure up.

Still, if they could just be friends, that would be enough. Louis had already done more for her than most people ever would. Look how much he cared.

“Freya Freya!” Kendrick nudged her with his elbow. “You zoned out or something? I asked if anyone’s been bothering you. If they have, just say so. I’ll handle it. We’ve got some serious influence in this business. If someone’s messing with you, I can’t. just go back and pretend nothing happened. Louis would kill me.”

Freya shook her head. “No one’s messing with me. Why would they?”

“Don’t hold back. If someone crosses the line, speak up. I’m an only child–and with the way my dad spoils my mom, there’s no chance of some illegitimate kid showing up. I’m it. So yeah, everything’s going to be mine eventually. And when I talk, people listen–even the big–name directors. If someone gives you trouble, one call and it’s handled. Don’t boule it up. You don’t have to take crap from anyone.”

And if the problem was just some extra or a crew assistant? Even better. Kendrick would shut it down without a second thought,

He wasn’t the kind of guy who went around flexing his family’s influence just for the fun of it. That wasn’t his style. He had better things to do than pick petty fights. If he did act like that, his dad would’ve knocked some sense into him years ago.

That’s why Kendrick came into the entertainment industry with a reputation for being tough to deal with. Part of it was his temper, sure–but part of it was strategy. Keeping people at arm’s length meant less drama.

Freya gave a small laugh “Seriously, no one’s been out of line. Most people in this industry who’ve made it this far aren’t that clueless–maybe just a few who don’t really know how to read the room. But now that you’ve shown up, I’m pretty sure they’ll think twice. No one’s going to risk stepping out of line again.”

“Good. But if anyone does start anything, you better tell me. I’m not trying to get chewed out by Louis.” Kendrick casually scanned the set, taking in the actors, the lighting rigs, and the props. “Not bad. The set looks decent, and the costumes and gear are solid. You can tell they’ve got a budget. Guess that’s what happens when Mr. Zane’s directing. How’s the hotel? Comfortable enough?

“Yeah, it’s a proper hotel. Everything’s fine.” Freya wasn’t picky. “Honestly, the whole experience has been better than I expected. Mr. Zane’s crew’s been taking good care of me. No drama, no stress. Mr. Daniel helps out with the writing stuff, and the cast has been easy to work with. It’s been really smooth so far.”
