Louis quickly rolled up Freya’s other pant leg–and immediately his stomach dropped. Her right knee looked even worse than the left. The skin was torn up, and blood was still seeping out. His heart ached just looking at it.
“Is there a medic on set?” he asked, voice sharp.
Clara snapped out of her daze and shouted, “Doctor! Is there a doctor here?”
“I’m here! Coming through–make way!” The set doctor rushed over with a first–aid kit. Louis shifted just enough to give him space but didn’t let go of Freya’s ankle.
“Please take care of the wound first,” Louis said, his tone steady but tight.
Being held like that, in front of everyone, made Freya squirm with embarrassment. The sting in her leg was growing sharper by the second, and now her ankle was literally in a man’s grip for all to see. She tried to pull away.
“Don’t move, sweetheart. I know it hurts, but you’ve got to bear with it. If we don’t treat it properly, it might scar,” Louis said gently, assuming she was just afraid of the pain.
That only made her more flustered. That wasn’t the reason she was squirming at all–but he clearly misunderstood, and now the whole room was watching.
But when it became clear Louis wasn’t letting go, she gave up trying to struggle. Moving hurt more anyway.
The doctor pulled out some iodine, but Louis quickly stopped him. “If you’ve got hydrogen peroxide, use that instead.” Then, turning back to Freya, he said, “Don’t worry–it stings, but it won’t leave a scar.”
Freya didn’t actually care if it scarred or not–who was looking at her knees anyway? Still, she nodded and let him call the shots. If he wanted to help, fine. She could deal with a little pain.
It’s just hydrogen peroxide, she told herself. I can handle it.
The doctor had only gone for the iodine because it would’ve hurt less, and honestly, she looked like the delicate type. A scar could be dealt with later using some cream. But hey, if they wanted to go the painful route now just to avoid one? Fine by him–not his problem.
The second the peroxide touched her skin, it hissed, and the burn hit her hard. Freya flinched, sucking in a sharp breath through her teeth. It hurt. Bad.

Still, she forced a tight smile toward the small crowd gathering around. Internally, she was cursing her luck. One second, she was reviewing a script, and the next, she was bleeding on the ground. Just her luck.
As the medic continued, Zane finally rushed in, looking stressed out of his mind.

The rig had been stabled all morning, and then out of nowhere, it malfunctioned. Violet never meant to slam into Freya–but suspended on wires, she hadn’t been able to stop herself.
The rig crew totally panicked, scrambling to regain control–but it all happened way too fast. If Freya had been seriously hurt… Zane didn’t even want to imagine the kind of fallout that would’ve been caused.
When they finally pulled Violet down, she was dizzy and shaky. Zane and the crew made sure she was okay, then sent her off with a female staffer for a full checkup. Zane ran straight to Freya.
Just great, he thought. Everything’s been fine for days, and the moment Louis shows up, this happens. Now it looked like they weren’t taking care of his wife.
“How is she? Is she okay?” Zane called out before he even reached them. “God, I’m so sorry. This was totally on me. I should’ve caught the issue before it happened. Is it bad?”
Louis didn’t respond, still focused on Freya.
Freya, on the other hand, gave a polite smile. “It’s alright. Just a couple of scrapes.”
Zane finally got close enough to see the wound–and immediately sucked in a breath. This was worse than he thought. He’d assumed she’d just tripped and gotten a minor scrape, not…
this.
