“You really are an idiot. Just because Dean said it, you automatically believe it’s true? Even if it is, was it worth offending Louis over? Let me tell you–don’t argue with me. Go figure out what’s really going on and clear his name. If you can’t even manage that, then quit messing around out there and come home. You clearly need to grow a brain first.”

He didn’t bother listening to Sebastian’s excuses and hung up right after, still breathing heavily–obviously furious.

“What are you doing working yourself up like this? No matter how bad things get, your health matters more. The company hasn’t collapsed yet, right? Don’t make yourself sick over this.”

Ella was startled by how angry Andres had gotten. She dropped the idea of defending her grandson and focused on calming Andres down. Still, she couldn’t help but grow more resentful toward Louis–and by extension, Freya.

What got under Andres’s skin the most was how Louis had so skillfully put Sebastian in his place, using nothing but a smile and a couple well–placed compliments about his wife. Without even complaining, he made his point so clearly that Andres felt forced to scold his own grandson.

Compared to that, his own grandson had let a woman cloud his judgment so much that he couldn’t even get the basics right. How could he not be bitter?

If Kendrick had heard Andres’s inner rant, he probably would’ve jumped up to argue. Louis was clever, sure–but when it came to Freya, he was just as much of a fool. Hadn’t he already thrown his own words and principles out the window for her? Between him and Sebastian, it was hard to say who was more whipped.

Luckily, Kendrick wasn’t privy to Andres’s thoughts. He was busy texting Waylon.

“Waylon, pull yourself together. Louis is fed up with both of us. If you keep partying like this, he’s gonna drag you back and give you a full system reset.”

“What’s Louis up to?” Waylon was distracted, looking over an update about Jasmine. He barely registered what Kendrick was saying.

“I get the feeling he wants to cut off Sebastian’s financial support. After that, he’ll probably go after that brain–dead guy from the Scott family too. For now, he wants us to try getting in touch with Sebastian. If that doesn’t work, we’re supposed to stir things up in the Wells family and let them take care of Sebastian themselves.”

Waylon blinked back into focus. “Whoa, why’s Louis being so hardcore all of a sudden? J thought he never messed with people’s money unless he absolutely had to.”

“Freya’s his everything, man. When she gets hurt, he acts like it’s worse than if it happened to him. Seriously, get your head in the game. We need to take care of this first. I’m gonna reach out to Sebastian–if I hit a wall, I’ll update you.”

“Got it.”

Kendrick ended the call, asked around for Sebastian’s contact, and got right back to work.

Meanwhile, Freya woke up from her nap. It was already three in the afternoon.

When she opened her eyes, Louis was gone.

Sunlight filtered through the sheer white curtains, filling the room with warmth. She stretched, hopped out of bed, changed clothes, and gulped down a glass of water.

Whatever lingering gloom she’d felt earlier had completely faded. Just thinking about Louis made her feel good.

Before she even made it downstairs, Marilyn–who was tidying up–looked up with a grin.

“Good afternoon, ma’am. The young master left around one. Before he went, he told me to keep an eye on you. If you seemed down, I was supposed to cheer you up. And if that didn’t work, I was to call him immediately. Honestly, he treats you like you’re the center of his world.”

Marilyn figured that the best way to brighten Freya’s day was to tell her how much Louis cared.

And she was right. Freya, who was already in a great mood, felt even better when she realized Louis had come back just to comfort her–and that his so–called “rest” had been all about helping her fall asleep.
