Sophia stared daggers at her agent, Claire. At this point, she was furious enough to want to eat her alive.
She’d put up with Claire all this time because she’d been professional, well–connected, and, to be fair, had helped her land a few decent roles. Their interests had aligned, and Sophia was willing to back down when necessary. But this? This was career suicide. Claire had overstepped in a way that could tank not just her public image but her entire path to becoming Louis’s wife–the endgame Sophia had been aiming for all along.
“How are you freaking out already?” Claire snapped, waving her phone in the air. “You’re not a kid, get a grip. This little scandal’s nothing. Even someone like Movie Queen Gu went through way worse before making her big comeback. You’ve got a long road ahead. Learn to play the long game.”
She glanced at her screen and added, “I’m talking to Mr. Dean right now. He’s busy. That’s normal. Give it a minute. Once he has time, he’ll turn this around. He’s tight with Twitter’s execs.”
The call finally connected. Claire grinned wide as she listened, then hung up and turned to Sophia.
“Well?” Sophia asked, anxious. “What’d they say?”
“They said don’t worry about it. We’ve sent over all the necessary info, and they’re handling the follow–up. Mr. Dean’s already in touch with Twitter’s top brass,” Claire said smugly. “Look, this kind of thing takes time. It’s a war of attrition. We’ll release evidence piece by piece. Don’t stress–Dean’s got this.”
Sophia wasn’t convinced.
“Zane and Louis aren’t the kind of people you mess with lightly. We threatened their interests and their people. You really think they’re not plotting
revenge? What if
-Twitter’s team flips the script when they get a better deal from Louis or Zane?”
Claire scoffed. “That just shows you don’t know why Mr. Wells, the Twitter exec, listens to Mr. Dean in the first place. It’s not about money–it’s about Savannah.”
“Savannah?” Sophia blinked.
“Yeah, Savannah’s Dean’s little sister. Mr. Wells has been into her for years. As long as Dean’s sister keeps stringing him along, Mr. Wells won’t budge. What, you think Louis and Zane are

gonna pull a random girl out of a hat and make him fall in love?”
Sophia wasn’t convinced. People change. Loyalties shift. One day you’re up, the next you’re disposable.
“What if he does fall for someone else?”

“No way. Savannah hasn’t even had a boyfriend all this time. You think Wells is just gonna throw away years of effort? Please.”
Claire was convinced Sebastian–Mr. Dean–would never backtrack. If he were going to quit, he would’ve done it long ago. He’d invested way too much to walk away now.
But at that very moment, Sebastian was second–guessing everything.
He’d finally convinced Savannah to have dinner with him tonight–a rare chance to build rapport. He was hoping to impress her by bringing up how he’d helped her brother deal with this drama. It was the perfect time to earn brownie points.
And then his grandfather decided to throw a wrench into everything. If he turned on Dean now, it would tick off the one person who held real power over his future. But if he didn’t… Grandpa was going to be pissed. Very pissed.
Sure, he technically ran things on the Twitter side, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be removed. He had to tread carefully.
Sebastian was on the verge of a meltdown–and all of it traced back to Louis. He was practically vibrating with resentment.
After much internal debate, he decided to stall. He’d take Savannah to dinner, gauge her reaction, and maybe act a little conflicted–play the sympathy card. If he could get her to see things his way, maybe she’d talk Dean down. Maybe Louis would back off.
That was the plan.
Reality, however, had other ideas.
