“Not quite. I just wanted to let you know–Mr. Andres from the Ruby family is throwing a birthday banquet tomorrow night. We need to attend.” Louis figured Freya wouldn’t know much about the Ruby family, so he explained before she could ask:

“The Ruby family made their fortune in the rubber business years ago. Later, they branched out into maritime industries. They’ve been doing well financially in recent years and have strong ties with people in high places. Most folks give them a lot of respect–nobody wants to cross them. Back when Grandpa was sick, Mr. Andres even sent his personal doctor to help. So we owe him. That’s why we have to go.”

“Oh, that makes sense,” Freya said, nodding. “We definitely should go, especially since he helped back then. I’ll get my hair and makeup done in the afternoon. Should I come to your office to meet you, or are you picking me up?”

“I’ll go

with you.

We should head over early anyway.” Louis had already cleared his schedule for the afternoon. He wasn’t about to miss a chance to spend more time with her.

“Alright, I’ll follow your lead.”

Andres’s birthday banquet was, without a doubt, the most extravagant event Freya had ever attended.
