“Oh? Is that so?” Baylon drawled, voice smooth but eyes sharp. “Well then, Ms. Savannah, it sounds like you’ve turned over a new leaf–learned that it’s better to stand on your own two feet. That’s a good thing.”
He gave a look so full of false sincerity it might as well have been dipped in sarcasm.
“And since we happen to know your father and your brother, we have to help spread the word, right? Let everyone know just how inspiring Ms. Savannah has become.”
Natalie’s carefully painted expression froze.
Spread the word? If this version of her became public knowledge, she’d be ruined. No more sweet deals from wealthy men. No more walking the line between seduction and pity. How would she marry
into a powerful family then?
A good girl persona might sound great, but once it was out there, no one would fall for the “poor little innocent” trick again.
Kendrick grinned, catching on immediately.
“Can’t believe Ethan, for all his terrible reputation, managed to raise such a humble and self- aware daughter. Impressive, really. Don’t worry, Ms. Savannah–we’ll make sure everyone hears how you’ve changed.”
It was the perfect kill–shot. Not only had they exposed her shady past, they were now repainting her as a self–made woman. One who no longer relied on charm or manipulation.
P
Which meant: no more suckers. No more games. No more back plans.
“And Louis’s autograph?” Kendrick smirked. “Forget it. He’s not interested in any woman who isn’t Freya. Even if you got it, it’d be useless. Better to read a few business books. When it comes to success, it takes talent–and brains. You might want to start studying.”
Natalie could feel the heat of Louis’s indifference like a spotlight. She could sense his patience thinning.
She mumbled a few awkward replies and then quickly excused herself, claiming she needed to use the restroom.
As she walked away from the group, her chest twisted with humiliation,
So much for “he’s not close to his wife.” So much for “you’re the perfect match. So much for “he’ll be interested once he sees you in person.”

All lies.
She’d put on her best face, best voice, even her best borrowed dress. She’d been insulted, humiliated–and Louis hadn’t so much as blinked in her defense.
No sympathy. No interest. Nothing.

And yet, the memory of Louis’s face, that calm, cold elegance… still made her heart flutter. If his wife could still live richly and comfortably even when he supposedly treated her poorly, why couldn’t Natalie accept a little coldness in exchange for a life like that?
Too bad it wasn’t going to happen. Louis hadn’t even looked at her twice.
Back in the lounge, Louis was already chatting again, completely unaffected–like she’d never existed.
Kendrick frowned. “What is it with Louis lately? Freya’s gorgeous, smart, stylish–and there are still women out here trying to throw themselves at him like it’s a game. What are they thinking?”
Baylon scoffed. “What do you think? They’re not thinking at all. What kind of woman behaves like that? Desperate like they’ll never get married. You see how many just swarm up like it’s a sale at the market? Not an ounce of dignity.”
He was sick of it, honestly. It wasn’t just Louis who attracted that nonsense–he and Kendrick dealt with it too.
Especially now that their families had started urging them to settle down, his patience for these types was gone. Women who played games or relied on looks made his skin crawl.
Sophia? Typical influencer face. A little fake innocence and suddenly she thought she was a top–tier beauty. As if they hadn’t seen real beauty before.
Natalie? Pathetic act. Couldn’t even handle a basic interaction without trying to look like the victim. Men like them didn’t have the time or energy for women who didn’t know how to handle their own mess.
They’d grown up surrounded by capable, well–educated women. They didn’t need fragile little dolls to feel manly.
In contrast, women like Freya and Jasmine–those were the ones worth appreciating. No drama. No schemes. Just substance.
Baylon muttered, “Louis and Waylon made good choices. Freya and Jasmine–those are solid women. Can’t even imagine trying to spend time with someone like Ms. Savannah. I’d lose my temper in a minute.“/
