Louis’s hand froze mid–motion. Freya stared at him in confusion, only realizing belatedly, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing” With a silent sigh, Louis handed the fork back to her. Then, under her confused gaze, he reached straight into the plate and picked up a dumpling with his fingers, popping it into his mouth.
Freya was stunned. Her mind was blank except for one looping thought: He actually ate a dumpling with his hands?! The big–shot timsrifte
The freshly fried dumpling was still steaming. The moment he bit into it, the rich aroma of soybeans and oil filled his mouth. It was so hot he had to inhale sharply to cool his tongue–but it really did taste good. “Not bad.”
They were already standing close. Louis was right in front of her. As he chewed, Freya could clearly see the movement of his Adam’s apple. And even now, her mind wandered again—Good–looking people really have good–looking everything. Even his throat and neckline are firmless.
After finishing the dumpling, Louis stepped back a little. From the corner of his eye, he caught Freya staring blankly at him and turned his head. “What is it?”
His sudden movement startled Freya again. Thankfully, this time she didn’t slip, though she did bump into the wall behind her. “Nothing. Was the dumpling good?”
“Yeah.” Louis took a couple more steps back, belatedly realizing he was standing a bit too close. The moment he stepped away, Freya felt the oppressive pressure ease. She finally exhaled in relief.
“If you’re done, you should go. There’s a lot of oil in here. The dumplings are already fried, and the soup is easier to make- shouldn’t take long.”
Louis nodded and turned to leave. Freya tilted her head, rolled her shoulders, and stretched her neck with a little groan. Much better on my own. But just as she was relaxing, a voice came from behind her again:
*Eating too much at night isn’t good for you. No need to make too much.”
She froze mid–stretch, hand still at her head, then slowly turned around to see Louis standing naturally in the doorway, looking right at her.
She forced a smile, nodded slowly, and watched him leave. Once he was gone, he chuckled softly and shook his head. Freya, meanwhile, waited a few seconds before whipping her head back toward the door. Confirming he was really gone, she stomped her foot and looked completely crushed.
What is happening today?! Did I offend the gods or something? Why do I keep humiliating myself in front of Louis?!
“Huh? Isn’t that enough for you?” Freya looked at his bowl. It was packed to the brim. Given his usual appetite, it should’ve been plenty. “Were you extra hungry today?”
Louis extended a long finger and pointed to her bowl. “Yours?”
“Oh, I smelled too much oil. Lost my appetite. No way was she going to admit the real reason: she’d weighed herself before calling him to dinner–and she was two pounds heavier than a few days ago!
