Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession novel Chapter 18

Dimitri stood a few feet away with his gun raised and pointed directly at us. My heart leapt to my throat as I tried to make sense of what was happening.

I had known Dimitri was planning something, but I never expected him to act so recklessly.

Nikolai is already in a bad mood due to his shipment. I am sure he wouldn’t think twice before killing Dimitri.

"Welcome," Nikolai muttered under his breath, calmly.

This calm demeanor of Nikolai is more terrifying than his angry one.

"There is no need to get scared, Alessia." Dimitri said holding the gun tightly with both of his hands. "I am here to save you from this monster"

Nikolai let out a low chuckle, tilting his head as he studied Dimitri.

"Save her?" He arched a brow. "From me?" He tsked, shaking his head. "How adorable."

"If you don't want to die, move aside, Nikolai, and let Alessia come to me," Dimitri warned.

Nikolai exhaled sharply and stepped aside. My eyes widened in surprise.

"He loves you a lot, doesn't he?" Nikolai smirked looking at me. "How touching"

I swallowed

"I got a competitor"

My eyes shifted between Nikolai and Dimitri. Am I dreaming or what?

Is Nikolai actually letting me go?

"Come to me Alessia. I will take you to a safer place, far away from this monster" Dimitri spat.

My heart raced in my chest. I wanted to actually run to Dimitri but my legs? My legs didn't cooperate.

"Alessia!" Dimitri's voice boomed in the hall as he slowly lost patience with my lack of reaction.

I inhaled sharply, reminding myself what Nikolai did to my family and empire. Turning away from Nikolai I forced myself to move. I had to get away from this place. I took a step forward—

And collided with Nikolai’s back.

"Oops!" I nearly crashed into him. "Time's up!"

He turned his head slightly, to look at me over his shoulder.

"Tsk. I gave you a chance, dolcezza. A chance to run from me but you lost it. Too slow!"

He snapped his head to Dimitri, and now his entire attention was on him.

"I didn't think that you would be foolish enough to enter my den alone," Nikolai said.

Dimitri's grip on the gun tightened as he swallowed hard while Nikolai remained unfazed. He looked bored.

"What? You brought your men, but they were stopped by my guards outside while they let you inside?"

Dimitri and my eyes widened at the same time.

He knows!

A deadly silence spread between us which Nikolai broke with his sinister laugh.

"Think again, Dimitri," Nikolai smirked.

Dimitri and I were frozen to our places while Nikolai spoke.

"Tell me, Dimitri, how does it feel to walk in here, thinking that you have outsmarted me, having an upper hand?"

Dimitri didn’t answer. His jaw clenched and his entire body tensed.

"But what if I tell you everything was a part of my plan, including your coming here!"

My eyes widened and my hands lifted to my mouth to suppress the gasp.

My stomach twisted as Nikolai’s body language shifted. He was playing with Dimitri, with me.

"Shut up, Nikolai" Dimitri took a step forward, his gun still aimed at Nikolai. "I will shoot you."

"Then do it," Nikolai said lazily, shoving his hands into his pockets. "What’s stopping you? I’m right here. Pull the trigger."

Dimitri breathed heavily.
