Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession novel Chapter 20

Nikolai's attention was fully on me, making sure I was fine when Dimitri attacked him from behind.

A loud gasp escaped my lips when Dimitri pulled him back with his collar, whirled him around, and punched straight at his jaw.

But Nikolai was quick to gain control over the situation. He was quick to sidestep just in time. The force of the missed punch sent Dimitri stumbling forward.

Dimitri was about to crash into me, but Nikolai grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back before he could. Dimitri's eyes were flashing with pure fury.

“You were always reckless,” Nikolai mused, rotating his neck. His voice was calm, but the sharp and wild storm in his eyes told a different story. “And that’s why you’ll never beat me.”

"Shut the hell up!" Dimitri shouted, which flinched me at my place.

And in a fit of fury, Dimitri punched Nikolai again, and this time in the rib. A grunt escaped Nikolai’s lips, not of pain but of amusement.

“Oh?” Nikolai smirked, provoking Dimitri “That’s all you’ve got?”

Dimitri's jaw tightened, his knuckles whitening as his fists clenched at his sides. His chest heaves as he inhales sharply. Gathering all his strength, he threw another punch at Nikolai's cheek. The impact turned Nikolai’s face to the side, but his head snapped back at Dimitri at lightning speed. He was still smiling.

“Not bad,” Nikolai said in a dangerous tone, tilting his head and deepening his smirk “But not good enough.”

My heart pounded in my chest.

What exactly is Nikolai thinking?

Why is he provoking Dimitri?

It seems like he is letting Dimitri beat him purposefully.

My eyes widened and another gasp escaped my mouth when Nikolai suddenly attacked Dimitri. Nikolai punched him in the stomach, knocking the air out of his lungs. Dimitri coughed violently as he doubled over for a split second.

"How dare you!"

Dimitri spat the blood before retaliating. He rammed his shoulder sharply into Nikolai's torso.

And both of them crashed into the floor.

War!

A war of dominance—that's what started.

The sound of their bodies hitting the hard surface echoed. My head started spinning and everything happened in a blur.

Both of them were on each other. It became difficult for me to breathe. My eyes squeezed shut as I started to get flashes. I could see a black silhouette of a man fighting with someone. I could hear distant painful grunts. I can't tell if it was the present or the past. It petrified me even more.

With a loud gasp, my eyes flew open. My heart was pounding loudly in my chest. My chest was moving up and down as I tried to breathe. Blinking multiple times, I adjusted my vision and tried to focus on the present, and what I saw made my breath hitch in my throat.

Dimitri and Nikolai were no longer on the floor. They were now standing on their feet. Nikolai's back was slammed against the wall, and Dimitri’s hands wrapped tightly around his throat.

Choking him.

Suffocating him.

I wanted to scream to stop them, but my voice betrayed me.
