Chapter 47 A Case of Jealousy

Abigail relaxed and reached out to take the food box from Marcus‘ hands, asking, “Why did you bring so much? Have you eaten yet?”

“It’s a bit heavy.” Marcus dodged slightly, keeping the box out of her reach. He added, “I haven’t eaten. I thought I’d join you. Ist that okay?”

Without a second thought, Abigail agreed, “Of course. I don’t like eating alone either.”

Marcus smiled and said, “Then I’ll eat with you from now on.”

As soon as his words registered, Abigail’s cheeks warmed involuntarily, and she replied softly, “Sure.”

Just as Abigail was about to leave with the handsome man by her side, Caroline couldn’t hold back anymore. Clicking her heels loudly, she chased after them. “Abigail, aren’t you going to introduce us?”

The moment Caroline’s voice rang out, a hint of coldness. flashed in Abigail’s eyes. She wondered, “Why is she clinging to me like a piece of gum you just can’t shake off? So annoying.” Meanwhile, Marcus caught the subtle change in Abigail’s expression, his brows furrowing slightly.

to them. She was about to speak but froze when she met Marcus‘ strikingly handsome face. In her head, she muttered, “Oh my. This man is so handsome…”

With the remnants of a recent smile still softening his features, Marcus‘ sharp eyes and slightly upturned lips made him look like a vivid painting done in bold strokes. He was, without a doubt, more attractive than Caroline had imagined.

What struck Caroline the most, though, was the way his attention stayed glued to Abigail. The warmth and tenderness in his gaze were entirely reserved for Abigail, as if Caroline were nothing more than thin air.

A flicker of jealousy and resentment flashed across Caroline’s eyes as she pondered bitterly, “How does someone like Abigail, a fake heiress, deserve a man this gorgeous?”

Despite her irritation, Caroline quickly masked her feelings. She had always been skilled at putting on a sweet front in front of men. Feigning curiosity, she asked, “Abigail, is this your new husband?”

Abigail rolled her eyes and thought, “What’s she pretending for this time?” She then snapped back sarcastically, “You know, so why bother asking?”

Caroline blinked innocently, putting on a clueless expression. “I was just confirming. You two look so in love. It’s hard to believe this is a flash marriage. Have you really only known each other for two or three days?”

She exaggerated her surprise by opening her mouth wide, her eyes glinting mischievously as she said with dramatic flair, “Don’t tell me you two already… Oh, no, that’s not right. I must’ve said the wrong thing. After all, you used to be engaged, and with your kind of personality, there’s no way you’d do something like that.”

Abigail’s expression darkened completely. She had known Caroline long enough to see right through her schemes. Abigail was well aware that Caroline was trying to make it look like she’d started something with Marcus while she was still engaged to Felix.

Abigail cast a cold glance at Caroline and demanded sharply, “Do you have a problem with me showing affection with my husband?”

Caroline froze for a moment before quickly smiling, “Of course not. I’m envious of you two-”

Abigail cut her off, her tone direct, “You should be envious. After all, we’re legally married, with an actual marriage license. No amount of love between us would ever be too much.” Hearing this, Caroline was instantly at a loss for words.

Before Abigail finished, she gave Caroline a deliberate once–over, her expression turning pointed. With a sly edge to her voice, Abigail added, “Unlike those mistresses who sneak around with other people’s fiancés without a proper title, too scared to show off in public. Don’t you think so?”

being a mistress. Caroline’s lips twitched with barely contained fury, but she didn’t want to lose face in front of others. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to agree, “You’re absolutely right.”

Abigail let out a mocking laugh and delivered another blow. “Good that you know. Learn from it, and stop acting like you’ve never seen real love before. It’s embarrassing like you’ve caught a case of jealousy.”

Caroline was seething inside, her thoughts racing: “Who does this bitch think she is to lecture me with such a condescending

tone?”

At this point, her facade completely cracked. She clenched her teeth and turned to Marcus, feigning regret as she said, “Sir, do you know that you’re just a stand–in?”
