Chapter 48 Marcus Asks for Reward
Marcus couldn’t care less about Caroline’s expression and continued speaking indulgently, “Besides, Abigail holds herself to high standards. The people she takes an interest in only get better, not worse. So, those she kicks to the curb must have been… well, you get the idea.”
He paused deliberately, leaving the word “trash” unsaid, but his frown and the shake of his head made his disdain crystal clear. The look on his face said it all.
Caroline was on the verge of exploding at the smug couple. Not only had she been force–fed a truckload of their “public displays of affection,” but she’d also been blatantly insulted.
Felix, who had been tossed aside by Abigail, was now with her. It hit Caroline–wasn’t this just calling her someone who picks up discarded trash?
Under the combined mockery of Abigail and Marcus, Caroline felt utterly humiliated. She brooded, “This isn’t how it’s supposed to be… I’m the one who’s supposed to be stepping all over Abigail, not the other way around!”
Noticing Caroline’s indignant expression and her attempt to stir trouble, Abigail cut straight to the point. “Instead of obsessing over others, why not focus on your own life? At least save yourself from being the laughingstock of everyone else.” Her words dripped with meaning as her gaze flicked pointedly to the

Caroline shook the box slightly and retorted, “What’s that supposed to mean? Abigail, even if you’re upset that Felix learned to cook for me, there’s no need to be so sarcastic. Are you saying it’s fine for that pretty boy of yours to cook for you, but Felix can’t do the same for me?”
Caroline huffed inwardly, “So what if Felix isn’t as handsome as that pretty boy? At least he’s rich, has status, and is willing to change for me.” With that thought, a smug grin crept onto her face again.
Abigail simply shook her head dismissively and sneered, “Your so–called ‘homemade lunch‘ is just a takeout meal anyone can order for a few bucks with a phone call. Are you sure you still want to flaunt that in front of me?” From the moment Caroline had shown up with the food box, Abigail had already recognized it as being from Classic Eats.
Abigail hadn’t planned to call her out, but Caroline’s repeated attempts to sow discord between her and Marcus, even trying to make Marcus misunderstand her, left Abigail with no reason to hold back. Abigail thought, “Since Caroline enjoys being spiteful, why bother sparing her feelings?”
Caroline’s face stiffened, and her brows furrowed deeply. Her first instinct was disbelief. “Who are you trying to fool?” She then pondered, clinging to her denial, “This box is way too fancy to be a takeout container. It must’ve been sent by Felix’s people… Abigail’s just jealous, so she’s spouting nonsense.”

Knowing Caroline wouldn’t believe her, Abigail was ready. With quick reflexes, she peeled off a teddy bear sticker that had been stuck on the food box. As soon as the sticker came off, the previously hidden Classic Eats logo was fully exposed. The proof was undeniable, and Caroline’s expression instantly turned dark and stormy.
