Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 542

Everett's eyes were a storm of emotions, swirling with jealousy and frustration. He couldn't stand the way Selena was defending Callum, a loyalty that once belonged only to him. Now, it seemed like she had shifted all her affections to another man.

His hand gripped her chin firmly, a mix of anger and desperation in his voice as he asked, "Selena, do you really love him that much?" The question was laced with a hint of vulnerability, a trace of hurt that he couldn't quite hide.

For three long years, Everett had avoided any news of Selena, not wanting to hear about her life with Callum. Ignorance was his only refuge; otherwise, the jealousy would have driven him mad. No man could bear such a betrayal.

But even he had underestimated his own feelings. Just seeing her take Callum's side was enough to unravel him.

Selena's anger wasn't about love. It was about respect, or rather, the lack of it. After all this time, Everett still hadn't learned to treat others with dignity. He had insulted Dr. Campbell and, by extension, her. What right did he have to question her loyalty?

Hadn't he always favored Margot, no matter what? Margot, who was always his first choice, right or wrong.

Selena didn't want to rehash the past. Those old grievances didn't matter to her anymore. But Everett had this knack for bringing back those memories, forcing her to relive the hurt.

If he couldn't act right himself, how could he expect anything from her?

With a fearless defiance, Selena replied, "Everett, I've accepted his proposal. What do you think?"

"Selena!" he growled, almost through clenched teeth, as if he wanted to shake some sense into her.

Their heated exchange must have disturbed little Mateo, who stirred with a soft whimper, furrowing his tiny brow.

Selena frowned, ready to put up a fight.

But he tightened his hold, drawing her back against him, spoon-like, whispering, "Selena, stop moving. I won't do anything."

After a pause, he added with a hint of mischief, "Unless you keep moving, then all bets are off. Your call."

Selena sighed internally. Only Everett could say something so cheeky with such confidence, taking liberties while pretending innocence.

With Mateo there, she couldn't keep up the fight. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm the storm within her.
