Holt had reached her limit and snapped, "Joy, get a grip, will you? Mr. Everett was never yours to begin with, so how can you even say such nonsense?"
Joy fired back, "Shut up! What do you know? Do you have any idea how much I've sacrificed for Everett? He should be mine!"
Holt was about to continue when Selena stepped in to stop her.
"There's no point arguing with her," Selena said calmly. "She seems to believe that anything she wants is automatically hers."
Joy, lost in her long unrequited love, had become irrational and caught up in her own delusions. She'd gone to extreme lengths to claim Everett, not knowing if it was love or obsession driving her anymore.
Her glare shifted back to Selena, filled with malice. "Selena, do you know what I can't stand about you? That holier-than-thou attitude. Do you think you've won? Don't count on it!"
"The phone with my confession is smashed to bits. It fell from such a height, who knows where the pieces ended up. Think you can find it? And as for this Devin..."
Joy's smile turned even more sinister. "I wasn't sure before, but now I get it. He's not the real Devin. Otherwise, you wouldn't have gone to all this trouble. If I'm right, the real Devin's been gone for a while!"
"Now, without evidence or witnesses, what can you possibly do to me?"
Selena, hearing this, wasn't surprised. Instead, she calmly admitted, "Yes, you're sharp enough to figure out this Devin is a fake."
If Joy weren't clever, she wouldn't have remained free for so long.
