It was obvious—Kayden's words were aimed straight at Lydia.
Charlotte blinked, startled. Kayden had been unusually affectionate toward her these past few days, but she hadn't expected him to take her side so openly, especially with Lydia standing right there.
Wait a minute… Wasn't Lydia supposed to be his mother? Confused, Charlotte tried to make sense of it.
Lydia's expression darkened. She hadn't expected the brat—who usually treated her with cold indifference—to suddenly defend another woman, and with such sharp words.
Fury bubbled in her chest, but she didn't dare let it show.
"Kayden, I've already explained. What happened just now wasn't on purpose. I was just... too worried about your Daddy."
Charlotte stiffened. "Your Daddy?" she thought.
The words struck her like a bolt of lightning. Was Lydia not Kayden's biological mother?
Her eyes widened. If Lydia wasn't Kayden's biological mother, then… who was? Had there been another woman in Brian's life all those years ago?
Charlotte was so stunned she didn't even think to defend herself.
But Kayden clearly wasn't about to let Lydia off that easily. His face was cold as he said, "Saying that you didn't do it on purpose doesn't excuse what you did.
"Ma'am was treating Daddy just now. You barged in and grabbed her. What if you messed up the treatment? Could you take responsibility for that?
"And even if Ma'am had touched Daddy, what does that have to do with you? Who even are you to him? What right do you have to question anyone here?"
