Seeing the look on Charlotte's face, Amber did not dare to hide anything. She immediately began explaining the entire situation, speaking so fast that the words rushed out in a jumble.
Charlotte listened quietly, her emotions a complicated mess. She had never imagined this. She had unknowingly sent Amber to the same kindergarten where Kayden was enrolled.
What were the odds? No matter how hard she tried to avoid Brian, fate seemed determined to bring their paths together here as well.
Although panic rose in her chest, Charlotte forced herself to remain calm on the surface. Amber had already managed to smooth things over, so she could not be the one to let it all fall apart.
Lifting her gaze, Charlotte looked directly at Brian. She kept her tone as steady as possible when she spoke. "Thank you for protecting Amber earlier, Mr. Norman. I appreciate what you did for her."
Brian had not expected to meet this woman here of all places. After all the effort spent trying to track her down, every lead had come up empty. Yet here she was, standing right in front of him. Though he was blind, there was a sharpness in his expression that felt almost cutting.
His voice turned cold as he questioned her, "What exactly is your relationship with this little girl?"
Charlotte almost rolled her eyes. She could not help but think, "What does my relationship with Amber have to do with you?"
But feeling a bit guilty, she decided not to argue. Instead, she simply replied, "We're related."
Brian narrowed his eyes. "Related?"
How could she possibly have any relatives? If memory served him right, she had already cut ties with the Perry family long ago.
Standing nearby, Kayden's expression shifted as if he had just put the pieces together. "So that's why… No wonder Amber also lives…"
Before he could finish, Charlotte's heart nearly stopped. She lunged forward and quickly clamped a hand over his mouth, terrified that he might let something slip.
Kayden was the only one who knew that she and Mandy were the same person. No matter what, Brian could never find out about this.
Brian heard the sudden commotion. Although he could not see what was happening, he sensed that Charlotte had done something.
His brows furrowed as he asked, "What's going on?"
