Chapter 225
For some reason, Linda felt a twinge of envy toward their relationship.
Of course, puppy love was discouraged, as it was better to focus on academics during one’s teen years. Once they enrolled in a good college or university, things would be smooth sailing, especially for those who didn’t have the luxury of being indulgent.
Linda didn’t eavesdrop on the young couple’s conversation. Instead, she quietly finished her food. Seeing the stall owner was occupied, she left a stack of money on the table and departed.
By the time she returned, Lexi had gone to bed. She took a shower, changed into her pajamas, and went downstairs to watch an old movie. It wasn’t until midnight that Samson returned home.
“Is work getting hectic lately?” Linda lifted her head and glanced at him. “I used to be the late one. I guess you’ve taken over the role now.”
Shuffling into the slippers, Samson replied, “Although the projects offered by Wilson Group have given us significant benefits, they also come with some challenges. For the last few days, I’ve been in meetings with all kinds of people.
“I met with a few government department reps earlier in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, I was arguing with the higher–ups about the same matter. It took us all night to finally clarify things.
“If it weren’t for making sure Lexi sees me in the morning, I would’ve stayed overnight at the company.”
Having a major project was imperative to a company. Naturally, work would become hectic after handling it. Not to mention, Samson was overseeing two companies. While Linda could temporarily manage YK Media in his stead, Lynch Group required his constant attention. After all, a bunch of old–timers were eyeing the company. Meanwhile, Linda was practically a hands–off boss at Felix Group. Since Tom’s loyal followers had all been fired, she recruited some capable individuals from John’s side and turned them into the new backbone of the company.
With the help of these veterans, the company steadily progressed while the past events gradually faded into oblivion.
“You don’t have to return if you’re that busy. I’ll just explain to Lexi in the morning. It’s a long distance from your company, and I don’t want you to drive while you’re tired.” Samson ascended the stairs, saying, “Lexi has been drifting away from me since spending time with William. If she doesn’t see me when she wakes up, I might actually lose a place in her heart soon.”
At that, she didn’t comment further and resumed her movie. Before arriving upstairs, he told her to rest up early.
Linda’s work had been going great. At last, Victor couldn’t handle the public pressure and apologized to her. Naturally, she gladly accepted it.
Following that incident, she received a call from Jessie. “How are you, Ms. Sinclair?”
“I was just taking a breather and remembered our discussion about my variety show proposal.” Jessie’s voice was rather hoarse, an indication that she might not have rested well in a long time.
