Nine months too late: After divorce by Baby Charlene novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73
Lana walked into the bar, meeting up with Lancelot at the quiet spot where they’d agreed to meet.
She looked around, and thankfully, there were no familiar faces.
Her hands were clammy with sweat. It was the third day-Lancelot’s given deadline to reveal the truth to Kage. Lana had been restless ever since.
When she called to meet up with him, she was grateful he even agreed to show up at all.
“Hey, Lani.” He gave her a head-to-toe stare, “You look good. Is it the baby hormones?”
Lana’s stomach recoiled with disgust. She hated the guy and hated herself for having anything to do with him. She really didn’t know who the father of the child was yet, but she hoped to God it wasn’t his.
“We can’t be here for long,” she kept her gaze low.
“Good. Because I actually have somewhere else to be. I’m meeting with a woman.” He flashed a flirty smile.
Lana almost rolled her eyes. He could h*** up with all the ladies in the world if only that would get him off her back.
“So, I don’t think you’ve told Kage about it yet.” He drank from his bottle. “Otherwise, he’d have reached out to me by now. Man has a bad temper, you know
Lana was silent, her heart threatening to burst out from her chest.
“I need your voice, Lana. I didn’t agree to come here just so you could watch me drink. I’d rather have someone like… Sylvie to do that. After all, her face is prettier than yours.”
Lana glared at him, hard. How dare he compare her to that **h?
“Look,” she sighed, her voice very calm and placating. “I’m getting married this weekend, Lancelot. I’ve… I’ve waited for this my whole life and finally, it’s happening.” She shook her head. “If I lose this, if I lose Kage, it’ll kill me.”
“I don’t see how this is my problem.”
“All I’m asking is for you to be patient with me,” she locked eyes with him. “I promise you, when I put to bed, we’ll run the DNA test tog her, and if it’s yours, you can have it. I promise.”
Lancelot stared at her for a long time. Slowly, his lips thinned with a smile as he wagged his head.
“Uh-uh. That doesn’t sit well with me.”
Lana’s eyes were almost teary now.
“Come on. What would you get out of ruining my marriage with Kage!? So what if I wait, and the baby turns out to be Kage’s? What will you do then to make up for breaking me apart?”
“Listen.” He placed a hand on her shoulder. “It’ll be worse if you get married to Kage and he finds out months later that you had deceived him with someone else’s child. The marriage will still be ruined, anyway, and your reputation and that of your family will be trash when the news gets out. Your father is running for a political office. With such a scandal,” he tsked, shaking his head, “it’s going to be disastrous for him.
“So, I’d advise you and Kage to have an understanding now. Who knows? He might just decide to go ahead with the wedding. So, when the child turns out not to be his in the marriage, he won’t be too surprised.”
He withdrew his hand, taking up his bottle instead. “Besides, something deep in my gut tells me that child is really mine,

Lana. And my gut is never wrong.” He winked at her, chuckling as he drank from the bottle.
It was all Lana could do not to retch. God, she hated this guy. Hated what he was doing to her. Was he out of his mind?

Kage would never understand if she told him about it prior to the wedding. He was going to call it off-she was sure of it. So, Lancelot’s suggestion wasn’t even an option.
She swallowed hard, facing him. “What do you want?” Her voice was lower now, like she was saying a secret. “Just tell me. Please.”
Lancelot laughed. Hard.
“Hold on, love. You’re marrying into my family ’cause we’re rich. A member of the Hawkins, remember? There’s no amount of money or material thing you could possibly give me in the world that would be new to me.”
Fear wrapped its icy fingers around Lana’s throat. She was so close to losing her mind, right there in the bar.
“Lancelot, please…”
“Fine.” He stood up. “I understand. I totally understand. You can’t do it.”
Lana’s hope fluttered.
“So, I’ll help you. I’ll go to Kage now, and tell him about it. Don’t worry, I got you.”
He tried walking away, but Lana held his hand, keeping it low enough for no one to notice.
“Please!” Her voice wavered with unshed tears. “Don’t do this to me. I’m begging you.”
His gaze turned sympathetic on her. He touched her hair, stroking it. “You’ll be fine, honey.” He suddenly released a devilish smile, one that made Lana’s intestines curl.
God, he was the devil himself.
He walked away. She wanted to call out or run after him but couldn’t. There were still people in the bar.
Her hands trembled as she turned to the bar, reaching for her phone. Tears rolled down her cheeks.
It didn’t take long before the call was answered.
“Mum. We h : a problem.”
Sylvie watched from the corner of the bar, keeping her face hidden with the menu. But from time to time, she lowered the book just to get a view of what was happening.
She had seen Lana and Lancelot talking, and it didn’t look like they were having a friendly conversation. She saw Lana stop him when he tried to leave. The way he touched her hair, smiled evilly, and the way she burst into tears right after.
She saw when she made the call. Something was definitely off with them.
After leaving her father’s company, Sylvie decided she needed a few drinks. But she’d been sitting in the bar for half an hour and couldn’t bring herself to order a drink. She’d promised that the last time she drank would be the last. She felt guilty going back on her promise.
She was about to leave when Lana came in, then the scene unfolded before her eyes. Although she couldn’t make out what they were saying, their body movements gave her a hint.

The Lancelot had acted, he only acted that way when he was bullying’ you or had a strong hold over you, like he’s been doing to her.
Was it possible Lancelot had something against Lana? What could it possibly be?
