Chapter 494 Hooked On The Act
Sophia was waiting for her ride at the entrance of a certain studio after wrapping up a day of filming when a black Maybach drove up and stopped in front of her.
The car window rolled down to reveal a familiar face.
“Hop in.”
“What are you doing here?” She frowned and did not move.
“I'm your boyfriend now. Is there something wrong with me coming to pick you up from work?” Zephyr responded with a soft chuckle.
“You're quite immersed in your role.”
She placed her makeup case in the trunk, opened the passenger door, and slid into the seat. After fastening her seat belt, she said, “Thanks.”
“I'm your boyfriend. Why are you thanking me?”
She remained silent.
The car slowly drove over the black and yellow speed bump before merging into the traffic flow.
“Have you gotten hooked on the act?” she teased with a laugh.
He replied, “Since we've already signed the agreement, we should take it seriously. The agreement only stipulates that we should act all lovey-dovey in front of our parents but can be casual with each other in private. However, we still need to be a bit more careful. If your father finds out that we barely interact privately even though we're about to get married, what would he think? Or if you accidentally say something distant like 'thank you', then what would they think? Would your father suspect something?”
She furrowed her brow.
That does kind of make sense. But why do I keep getting the feeling that something is off?
“Have you figured out how to get my dad's approval for us to get married next month?” she asked.
“What about Mrs. Tortell—”
“Don't worry about my mom. I've already talked to her.”
“It's quite simple, actually. I plan to tell him that a higher-up's daughter took a liking to me and asked if I was seeing anyone. To discourage her, I told her I already have a fiancée and that the wedding is set for next month. Unexpectedly, she insisted on attending. So, the wedding has to happen.”
Sophia pursed her lips. “How narcissistic. So, who's this higher-up? If you're just bluffing, my dad won't believe it.”
“Matthew Xenos.”
“All right, then. Does he have a daughter?” she asked curiously.
“Mm-hmm. Kylie Xenos. She was my junior in school.”
“Oh.” She cast her gaze downward. They probably attended the same school when they were studying abroad. So, why did he suddenly choose to leave back then?
Inside the car, silence filled the air.
As he turned the wheel to navigate a bend, he took the opportunity to steal a glance at her.
Her head was lowered, and her gaze was fixed intently on her knees. It was uncertain what thoughts were occupying her mind.
He withdrew his gaze and focused on the road ahead.
Instead of taking her straight home, he brought her to an Epean restaurant for dinner.
“Miss, please enjoy your meal,” the waiter said while placing the steak in front of Sophia and lifting the lid. There was a crackling sound as the steak sizzled on the plate.
Zephyr pulled the steak toward him and sliced it into pieces before pushing it back across the table. “Eat up.”
“Thank you.”
“Ahem!”
“Oh!” She stuck out her tongue as she registered what she had just said. “Sorry, I forgot again, my dear boyfriend.”
“My dear girlfriend, let's not make this a habit.”
Observing her playful demeanor, he could not help chuckling.
The pair chatted as they ate.
