Joshua grabbed Felicia’s suitcase, visibly panicked.
An inexplicable feeling gripped him–an illusion that if he let her go now, she’d never come back.
Ignoring the look on his face, Felicia nodded toward the countdown planner on the entryway counter. “I’m just following the plan,” she said indifferently.
Only then did Joshua see what she’d written under countdown number three.
“Getting married soon! Dreaming of a short, romantic pre–wedding trip with my soon–to–be husband!”
He let out a breath of relief and loosened his grip on the suitcase. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“You were busy, weren’t you?” Felicia smiled.
But she had told him. More than once. He just never listened

self, making decisions for her.
“You’re a woman. Traveling alone isn’t safe. Wait for me in the car. We’ll go wherever you want.”
Felicia was stunned. Now that she’d made up her mind to leave him, he offered to come with her?
She no longer needed his company.
Besides, she was heading abroad right after this trip.
But before she could say anything, Joshua had already stepped into the bedroom.
He never allowed rebuttals. And in all their years together, she’d never once stood up to him.
Sometimes she wondered. Was that why he trampled her feelings so brazenly?
It didn’t matter anymore.
Not wanting to argue before she left, she went downstairs and sat in the passenger seat.
An hour passed. Joshua still hadn’t come down.
She was about to get out of the car when she saw him walking over with a pink suitcase. Whitney

He opened the car door for Whitney and explained, “Whit has a major project. It can’t move forward without me, so I brought her along.”
The project couldn’t move forward without him? Or Whitney couldn’t be without him?
Felicia didn’t bother exposing the lie.
What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway just for her turned into a trip for three.
But this time, Joshua seemed to remember she was his future wife. He stayed by her side the
whole time.
She felt nothing–only the growing hostility in the glances Whitney kept shooting her way.
Two days passed quickly.
The night before they left, the village hosted a bonfire party.
A photographer offered to take free photos for couples.
It occurred to Felicia that in all their years together, she and Joshua had never taken a single photo. He always said he hated having his picture taken.
She smiled, “Thanks, but no.”
“Wait.”
Joshua looked at her. That handsome face of his showed a rare flicker of guilt. “We’ve been together this long and don’t have one photo. Let’s take one.”
So he knew.
Felicia genuinely didn’t see the point, but she didn’t want to argue over something so small before leaving. She nodded.
They stood together. The photographer motioned for them to move closer. “Hey, you’re a couple. Why are you standing so far apart? Sir, loosen up a bit. Hug her.”
Joshua raised his hand.
Just then, Whitney gasped.
She clutched her chest and crouched down, looking in pain.
Joshua pushed Felicia away without a second thought. Caught off guard, she stumbled and fell to

“Did you forget to take your meds?”
He was already carrying her toward the inn when he called over his shoulder, “I’ll be back later”
Felicia slowly picked herself up off the ground, watching them disappear into the distance, her gaze cold.
She knew. He was never coming back.
