Felicia was right. Joshua didn’t come back–not even after the bonfire party ended.
The crowd dispersed, and she ran into the photographer from earlier.
Noticing she was by herself, he knew better than to ask about the couple shot again. Before leaving, he took a single shot of her.
“You’re beautiful. You just have to let go of the wrong one to find the right one.”
Felicia took the photo, thanked him, and walked away alone.
Even a stranger could see Joshua’s feelings for Whitney.
So what made Joshua so sure she couldn’t?
Or had he been playing dumb all along?
He knew how much she loved him. He knew her meek personality well. So he was so certain that even if she knew about him and Whitney, she’d still turn a blind eye and marry him anyway. Was that it? She genuinely didn’t know the answer.

The village was beautiful. Felicia walked slowly back to the inn along the riverbank.
Her phone dinged–a text from the airline, reminding her to check in two hours early and board
on time.
She took a deep breath and let it all out.
Finally, she was leaving.
From now on, Joshua could love whoever he wanted. It had nothing to do with her anymore.
She went back to the inn. Walking past Whitney’s room, she heard faint sobs from inside.
She glanced over. The door wasn’t fully closed, and she saw Joshua and Whitney in each other’s
arms.
“Joshua, I regret it so much. I shouldn’t have gone abroad. Then maybe I’d be your bride
tomorrow…”

After a long pause, Joshua said, his voice tight, “Whatever we had is in the past now.”

“But you love me. Are you really going to throw your whole life away out of obligation? A marriage without love is just misery for everyone.
“Joshua. Stay with me tonight. Please?”
Then she kissed him.
Felicia turned and went back to her room to sleep.
She didn’t spend another second thinking about those irrelevant people. Instead, she focused on going abroad, on sharpening her medical skills, on the bright future waiting for her–hers alone.
A night passed.
In the morning, Felicia woke to her alarm. The other side of the bed was cold. Joshua hadn’t come back.
She wasn’t surprised.
She packed, washed up, and dragged her suitcase downstairs.
At the bottom of the stairs, she ran into Joshua walking in–Whitney beside him, radiant and
flushed.
Joshua walked over to Felicia, as if nothing had happened, and handed her breakfast with a smile.
“You were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to wake you. Whit and I picked this up for you.”

Whitney gave a provocative grin. “It’s an egg sandwich with local ingredients. It’s amazing. Joshua and I both loved it. You’re gonna love it, too.”
Felicia didn’t take the bag. Her voice was flat. “Thanks, but no. I’m allergic to eggs.”
Joshua froze for a second, then pulled his hand back, looking awkward.
“I’ll get you something else. Wait here. Whit and I are going up to pack. Then we’ll head home.”
“Go ahead.” Felicia nodded.
After they went upstairs, she walked out with her suitcase, hailed a cab, and got in.
“To the airport.”
Then she sent Joshua every taunting photo and message Whitney had sent her over the past few weeks.

She texted, “Joshua, I’m not interested in a love triangle.
“I’m out.
“Marry Whitney. Be happy.”
She snapped her old SIM card in half and tossed it out the window.
“Joshua,” she murmured, “from now on, we’re nothing.”
